VP Pence was called back to the WH to deal with an emergency. He was on AF2, going to an event in Salem NH. The event has been cancelled.
About thirty minutes ago, I looked at the news on NBC, CBS, and ABC and saw.............nothing...
Correct. There is no plan of succession for the VP. If anything happens to the VP the President nominates a replacement.

Bush actually watched Haig on Tv as he assumed his pretend position. I remember seeing Haig...a total wreck.

I saw coverage of AF2 returning to DC and of Pence returning to White House discussed on both CNN and Fox Business News an hour ago.

Put yourself in front of a TV watching coverage of the media in front of a hospital saying "we do not know if the wonds are mortal" and then they cut to reporters in front of the Naval Observator saying "the Vice President is not in the White House or here at his residence. The adminstration is trying to locate him...". Your imagination starts going. Did they take him too? What's happening? Are we under attack? Is anyone in charge if we are?
Someone had to reassure the nation that we weren't adrift. Haig saw that, he might even have been told by Bush to say what he said. But that's why he said it.
But no explanation???
