Warren signs Taylor Swift's Equality Act petition

Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.), a 2020 presidential candidate, on Thursday signed pop star Taylor Swift's Change.org petition asking for support for the Equality Act, which seeks to protect LGBTQ Americans from discrimination.

"It’s 2019 and our LGBTQ+ friends continue to face discrimination at work, school, and in their communities," Warren said in a statement.

"Enough is enough. I’m proud to represent Massachusetts in the Senate, a state that has led the nation in protecting and promoting equality. But there’s so much more work to be done. We can start by passing the Equality Act," she added.

The Democratic-controlled House voted for the bill in May, and Warren said it now is up to the Republican-majority Senate "to be on the right side of history," and vote on the bill.

"LGBTQ rights are civil rights. LGBTQ activists have never given up, they've organized, and brought about transformational change. But the work is far from over. Thank you Taylor Swift for being in this fight to pass the Equality Act," Warren said.

Last week, Sen. Cory Booker (N.J.), another Democrat seeking the party's White House nomination in 2020, signed Swift's petition.

The petition had more than 350,000 signatures Thursday morning.

Other presidential candidates Sens. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), Kamala Harris (D-Calif.) and Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.) have all announced support for the act.

Swift also pushed for the Equality Act in her latest music video released earlier this week.

Because pop musicians should drive public policy.

Taylor’s music is for people who will never be old enough to go into the country bars.

What’s with “LGBTQ+”? I’ve heard “LGBT” but recently they have been pushing the Q and plus sign. I need to go to re-education camp I’m sure, because I haven’t kept up on all these gender identities and what the latest is.

So...did Taylor Swift come out as a dyke?

Certainly looking that way.

"It’s 2019 and our LGBTQ+ friends continue to face discrimination at work, school, and in their communities," -- Elizabeth Warren

Right. Try to discriminate against one of them and see how long it takes them to put you in a pot of boiling water for the next several years.

They keep adding letters to it, don’t they? A minority so oppressed that people keep wanting to join it??? Hmmm....

“I need to go to re-education camp I’m sure”

All you need to remember is LBGTQFUBAR. That will cover any more letters they add.

"+" -- maybe they are covering the, er, "plus size" cohort. You know, the "poundage challenged" segment of society that likes to "resist" Trump from Mom's basement.

Yep, do they mean plus size people? Who knows, unless you are in the inner circle of people who make up these slogans and acronyms.

“Plus” is probably an all-embracing way to cover every other perversion under the sun that hasn’t earned it’s own letter yet. Next up on the alphabet list is probably a “P” for pedophilia and pederasty.

I have her first album. It is not bad. She stopped doing pop country a long time ago.

Her contribution to the Hunger Games soundtrack with The Civil Wars under T-Bone Burnett was solid.

Now she listens to her fan base and thoughtless vanity and Lena Dunham.

Yes. That clearly os the plan by those who drive this militancy.

It is very evident that homosexuals are mentally ill people. If they ever get into power, they will destroy anyone that disagrees.

We must not surrender without a godly fight!

There should be no special rights. The “right of the individual, to be individual” is covered under the “All people are created equal, with certain inalienable rights”. To single some out, diminishes the rights of the others.

Amen to that. Justice should be completely blind to the character or nature of any group.

I think “Hate crime” fits that bill, too, because it makes penalties extra harsh if a crime is committed against a protected class.

Well, nearly all her songs are about her breakups. . .which are numerous and legendary. . . Maybe she finally switched to the Girl’s Team . . .
