Pete Buttigieg told "Axios on HBO" that "we've probably had excellent presidents who were gay — we just didn't know which ones."
Why it matters: Buttigieg, who is rising in polls and would be the first openly gay nominee of either party, talks easily about his sexual orientation when asked. This comment is a new window into his thinking.

Pete Buttigieg: "I'll respond by explaining where I want to lead this country. People will elect the person who will make the best president. And we have had excellent presidents who have been young. We have had excellent presidents who have been liberal. I would imagine we've probably had excellent presidents who were gay — we just didn't know which ones."
"Axios on HBO:" "You believe that we've had a gay commander-in-chief?"
Pete Buttigieg: "I mean, statistically, it's almost certain."

As to the Presidents— Lincoln had a great deal wrong with him but he was not a homo (using the “sharing a bed” in a tavern- which many people did in those times— you “took a bed” at an inn/tavernkeeper— bed and board. And this was a discount—and often shared a bed (actually a whole room with other pallets on the floor) with other males. So that is bull crap.
What Lincoln WAS was bipolar depressive, who also had signs/symptoms of Marfan’s syndrome (connective tissue disorder) including aortic regurgition causing his head to frequently bob up and down- seen in the many seated portraits made of him with blurred head from the motion.l
Buchanan— there is at least one real letter indicating his inclination, sent to a woman, and bemoaning his aloneness, and “needing to go a-wooing gentlemen” for comfort. Doesn’t get much clearer than that.

I’m aware. I would apply what you’re saying mostly to Lincoln...besides, he married and had kids. If Lincoln had any homosexual inclination, he put it aside.
Buchanan on the other hand....well, I suspect he was homosexual. AND helped bring on the Civil War.
Supposedly Buchanan was engaged at one point but his fiancee died and because of his devotion to her could not bring himself to fall in love with another woman. Whether that’s true or just put out so people wouldn’t be suspicious of him for being a bachelor, I don’t know.
