13 - 0 would be unheard of in the men's World Cup. Our women are so far ahead of some other women's national teams it is just ridiculous. Hence this result. Thailand? A nation not known for its women's sports programs. And yet they qualified for these finals - makes you wonder how bad the other teams were. In general, I would say it was just classless and unsportsmanlike on our team's part. Regardless of the gender - and sexuality - of the team members.
My pick-up team was beaten by a team of local all-stars 132-22. We had a great time, and learned a lesson. We sucked, and we had to get better! lol
Well, as long as everyone on the losing team got a Participation Trophy, then its cool.

I don’t follow soccer closely, but doesn’t placement in playoffs depend on performance in preliminary rounds?
Therefore, clobbering another side 13-0 is better for your future match-ups than winning 1-0.
The system is set-up NOT to take your foot off the gas.
Whoever would ask, “should they have run up the score” has no idea how international soccer works. The answer is: Yes. By “running up the score,” U.S. women helped make sure they win a tie-breaker for selection into the next round.
Rapinoe is an attention you know what......and has already said, along with Alex, they will not attend any invite to the White House
Ingrates!
Im embarrassed Fox is giving them so much coverage!
One of the Fox blonds is over in Paris giddily reporting.
This team and US soccer has been an embarrassment to the values of that made this country great for a long time.
Here’s the team and their captain (who only stands for the anthem because she is forced to) celebrating after their 9th goal. Notice also that Alex Morgan reached out to grab the defender’s shirt to impede her path just prior to the goal. So they were even willing to cheat after 8 goals.

Two issues:
running up the score - while goal differential is a factor, over the last several World Cups, when goal differential is used to break a tie, it is never more than 2 - 3. Play slow, play with one less, take long shots to change possession.
Celebrating goals 9, 10, 11, and 13 - no real excuse, tone it way down.
The only women’s sport that is remotely interesting to watch is mud wrestling. Well, beach volleyball is apparently fairly popular.
As to the BS charge of “running up the score”, I refer to the timeless quote by former American football coach Dan Hawkins: “This ain’t intramurals, brother!”
As to the unpatriotic carpet-munching bunch of them, I say they should be left in France.
What is more of an insult Giving your best effort for the entire game and winning by a huge margin? Or letting up and asserting that your opponent is completely feeble and outclassed but winning by an appropriate margin?
There is nothing embarrassing about what they did....
If it were just one game, then yes, you back off and put in the scrubs...
However, WC that’s not how it works.. Goal differentials matter, so you never let up, because your score differential matters down the line.
No coach worth their salt would let up in that situation.
Blame the system for encouraging this, not the players or coaches for doing their jobs.
I’d agree that there’s not enough good women’s teams to fill the brackets, so this happens. Many countries don’t have much women’s soccer. In a sense, they set up Thailand to fail like this. It needs addressing by FIFA.
As far as running up the score and celebrating...this is the World Cup, it only comes every four years and some only get one opportunity. Many players on a team rarely get to score. So in the *first* game what are they supposed to do? Not score? Not celebrate?
The tactic of wasting time by moving the ball into the corners of the field and go nowhere only applies to when you’re trying to protect a lead. Why would you do that when you’re up by more than five goals?
It would still be considered insulting - we’d have had to do it for most of the second half. It would be boring and not what the fans paid for. The issue is having bad teams in the tournament.
The biggest issue, for me, is that the Thailand coach didn’t substitute the goalkeeper. It wasn’t fair on her - now having the worst goalkeeping statistic in World Cup history against her name.
How many of the US team’s members are actually men in verbal drag?
Our women are so far ahead of some other women’s national teams
Our lesbians are so far ahead of some other women’s national teams
I suspect our players are bigger and faster than the Thai ladies.
They are representing the United States, not themselves.
Bump
What is it with women these days ?
