Report: David Ortiz Shot, Wounded In Dominican Republic

BOSTON (CBS) – David Ortiz has reportedly been shot during a robbery attempt in the Dominican Republic. Ortiz was shot and wounded at an amusement center in Santo Domingo, his father told ESPN’s Enrique Rojas.Ortiz’s condition is not known.

Wish him well. However when a person gets shot and survives, their perspective on politics, people, religion, closely held values as well as their prior psychological state often undergoes reexamination and change. David Ortiz, as might be expected from a minority athlete with a Boston base had a very definite public , political persona which he was not shy about promoting. It will be interesting to see what evolves.

NESN (New England Sports Network, TV home of the Red Sox) just reported that Ortiz was shot in the back: Bullet entered the back and exited the abdomen. He had emergency surgery in the DR and is now in stable condition (as of midnight ET).

Wow, what the hell is going on in the Dominican Republic lately??

Wow, that's heartbreaking. New England Sports Network (NESN) also reported that Ortiz was shot in the back, and the bullet exited the abdomen. As of midnight ET, Ortiz was in 'stable condition' after emergency surgery. Prayers for Big Papi...

A security video of the incident seems to reject the idea of robbery. The perp just walked up behind him and shot him in the back. More details emerging but it is claimed he is “out of danger”.

No major organs hit. Operation over & he’s resting. Full recovery expected. The video shows an assassination attempt, not a robbery.

Guy snuck up behind Ortiz & shot him in the back. Other videos show that they caught the shooter & beat him to a pulp.
