U.S. Justice Department prepares Google antitrust probe: sources

The U.S. Justice Department is preparing an investigation of Alphabet Inc's Google to determine whether the tech giant broke antitrust law in operating its sprawling online businesses, two sources familiar with the matter said.

Officials from the Justice Department's Antitrust Division and Federal Trade Commission, which both enforce antitrust law, met in recent weeks to give Justice jurisdiction over Google, said the sources, who sought anonymity because they were not authorized to speak on the record.

The potential investigation represents the latest attack on a tech company by the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump, who has accused social media companies and Google of suppressing conservative voices on their platforms online.

One source said the potential investigation, first reported by the Wall Street Journal, focused on accusations that Google gave preference to its own businesses in searches.

A spokesman for the Justice Department said he could not confirm or deny that an investigation was being considered. Google declined comment.

It is not just the Trump administration that has accused Google of censorship. It is every conservative who has been the victim of algorithms designed to give a certain kind of search result. It is engineers who work for the company and are fired for pointing out bias in the workplace.

It is high time for Google to be broken up.

As I've written previously, and with all due respect, for those in favor of "trust busting" it is important to understand that the power of the federal government to break up private enterprises is not found in the Constitution. The foundation of Leviathan's "trust-busting" is - are you ready? - the Commerce Clause! Yes, that's right...the same abused favorite-of-statists lever to effectively regulate everything under the sun is the basis of "anti-trust" laws in the US.

Therefore, when you cheerfully suggest that Trump break up Google or Amazon, FB, Twitter, and any other firm you dislike, you are also giving philosophical sanction to Schumer and Pelosi etc to tax away ammo, most of the New Deal, and pretty much every despotic economic law in the US since the 1930s.

I get it: these firms wield great power and access to data etc. I also understand nobody is forcing you to use their products. Therefore I do not see the philosophical congruence of simultaneously saying AOC et al are dopes and we dislike socialism and crony capitalism etc but then support the government using an unenumerated power to break up a company that offers a service people voluntarily use.

Trump will someday not be president and someday we will have a ghastly DNC apparatchik heading the Executive branch. When that President pushes to break up FR or Fox or Diamonds and Silk on antitrust grounds, I can sleep well knowing I didn't help contribute to the right-wing antitrust witch hunt. Oh, and FB and Amazon and Google will likely be like IBM at that time...a once-feared firm that is now still big but yesterday's news.

Nunes: ‘Someone was running an op against the Trump campaign on FOREIGN soil’

House Intelligence Committee Ranking Member Devin Nunes told Fox News‘ Sean Hannity Thursday night that he is certain “someone” was running an intelligence operation against the 2016 Trump campaign “on foreign soil,” and that one or more U.S. allies were likely involved.

“I think we can be sure about one thing and that is on foreign soil, someone was running operations against Trump campaign people,” he said.

“Now, we don’t know if that was our government, if it was the British government or some type of firm of some kind, but I think it is definitely a fact that on British soil, maybe on Italian soil, there were activities going on that we need to get to the bottom of.”

Sounds like a shoe might fit in (evil) Silicon Valley.

So we have to surrender to the Left and lose, because one day the Left might do some flagrant abuse of power which they’re already doing anyway?

Let me guess, you were also mad when McConnell got all those judges confirmed by scrapping the Senate rules.

I say eat like there is no tomorrow.

Because for this country, there probably isn’t one.

I’m curious what all these people will do in 2030 when the next democratic presidency has Free Republic shut down and its domain seized by the registrar for “Transphobia and Anti-LGBT hate speech”. After all, the Registrar is a private company, and so is the host. Because that precedent was already set in 2017.

The Constitution grants Congress the power to regulate interstate commerce.
Sherman Act of 1890 regulates commerce.
So this is anti-Constitutional?

States were already writing anti-trust laws decades before Sherman.
Problem was that those laws were confined within the State. The States and the people through their Congresscritters sought relief from that intrastate confinement, hence the Sherman Act.

They are a revolutionary organization attempting to use information suppression to subvert American elections. Their activities support murderous marxist “governments” all over the world. They are helping our enemies develop technology that will be used to destroy us. They should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

Every big corporation teaches every employee EVERY YEAR the dangers of violating Anti-Trust.
When I worked for Intel, they went over backwards to prevent any such thing from happening.

For instance, when I was young and foolish, I suggested that Intel buy AMD and avoid all the competition.
I was quickly told this would result in an Anti-Trust lawsuit that Intel would 100% loose.

Anti-Trust is all about keeping markets open for competition.
IBM can’t be sued for AT as they have lots of competition in the computer market.

Google controls 90% of the server farms, 50% of the cell phone market thru Android and 100% of the data which passes thru their operation.

They may have passed on by then and they can die knowing that they “were the gentleman” and “took the higher ground” because until the end they lived by ####ing outdated “norms” that the left HASN’T GIVEN A #### ABOUT since the 1960s.

Trump does what he has to because we all here are THISCLOSE to being enemies of the state.
