Mueller, in First Comments on Russia Inquiry, Declines to Clear Trump
New York Times ^ | 05/29/2019 | By Sharon LaFraniere and Eileen Sullivan

Robert S. Mueller III, the special counsel, on Wednesday declined to clear President Trump of obstruction of justice in his first public characterization of his two-year-long investigation of Russia’s interference in the 2016 presidential election.

“If we had had confidence that the president clearly did not commit a crime, we would have said so,” Mr. Mueller said, reading from prepared notes behind a lectern at the Justice Department. “We did not, however, make a determination as to whether the president did commit a crime.”

He also said that while Justice Department policy prohibits charging a sitting president with a crime, the Constitution provides for another process to formally accuse a sitting president of wrongdoing — a clear reference to the ability of Congress to begin impeachment proceedings.

Although his remarks closely matched statements contained in his more than 400-page report, Mr. Mueller’s portrayal of Mr. Trump’s actions was not as benign as Attorney General William P. Barr’s characterizations. While Mr. Barr has seemed to question why the special counsel investigated the president’s behavior, Mr. Mueller stressed the gravity of that inquiry.

“When a subject of an investigation obstructs that investigation or lies to investigators, it strikes at the core of their government’s effort to find the truth and hold wrongdoers accountable,” he said.

He suggested that he was reluctant to testify before Congress, as the House Judiciary Committee has asked. “The report is my testimony,” he said.

I think Barr ought to hire Mueller to investigate HRC’s possible involvement with Russia during the 2016 election since she paid for the dirty Russian dossier.

The fact that a high level government lawyer and “justice officer” is using the argument “we can’t prove a negative” is completely amateurish and stupid. It goes against every legal/justice principle there is.

And he must know its buffoonish, yet he’s doing it anyway. At this point, he’s merely pandering to the media and simpleton leftist politicians.

And why would he do that? Nervous about something? Angry all his board memberships, paid Wall Street speeches and consultancies on high-level government bid-rigging will go away?

Will Trump roll over and let Mueller stay out of jail?

Apparently these buffoons never took a beginning law class..it is NOT NOT NOT up to a prosecutor to exonerate ANYONE, or clean anyone..they decide whether they can win a case beyond a reasonable doubt..if they dont have the evidence, they dont file charges, its really that simple

I wish Trump really would declassify/release stuff instead of simply threatening to. Failure to do so will be his undoing.

“Clear Trump”?

Who had THAT expectation?

Mueller is just sucking all the air out the MSM that he possibly can. This was JUST another opportunity for him to get face time on national TV

“Clearing” is what defense attorneys do. Prosecutors just decide whether there is enough evidence to prosecute.

So if Nadler doesn’t need to hear from Mueller why does he need to hear other former Clinton executive staff?

Since when does a prosecutor offer the opinion that he could not form an opinion as to whether someone is innocent of a crime that they are not bringing an indictment for? If that isn’t a political hit job I don’t know what is.

RE: I think Barr ought to hire Mueller to investigate HRC’s possible involvement with Russia during the 2016 election

Mueller said that he wants to go back to private life. I guess Barr has to hire somebody else. This time hire a real anti-Hillary lawyer they way Mueller filled his staff with anti-Trump lawyers.

The New York Times traffics in small children and tons of drugs. We’ve investigated this and can not exonerate them. Therefore they are guilty. Right?

Barr testified, under oath, that he asked Mueller if he did not charge Trump with obstruction was because DOJ policy is not to charge a sitting president. Mueller told Barr “no”. The exact opposite of what he said in today’s presser.

Mueller lied today.

It was Obama’s DOJ that made the policy that a sitting president couldn’t be indicted while in office. LOL

Hey stupid, your job is to say if he committed a crime.
How do you find evidence of NOT committing a crime?
I hope everyone can see now what a witch hunt this is.

If he had evidence Trump colluded with the Russians he would of said so in the report. The Deep State sent their puppet Mueller out there to muddy the waters, but outside of the lunatic left, I don’t think he was all that convincing!
