FAA investigating religious discrimination claims at airports where Chick-fil-A excluded [TR]

The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating religious discrimination claims against two airports because plans for Chick-fil-A restaurants were scrapped after complaints about the fast food chain's stance on LGBTQ issues.

"The Department of Transportation has received complaints alleging discrimination by two airport operators against a private company due to the expression of the owner's religious beliefs," an FAA statement said.

“FAA's Office of Civil Rights has notified the San Antonio International Airport (SAT) and Buffalo Niagara International Airport (BUF) that it has opened investigations into these complaints. The FAA notes that Federal requirements prohibit airport operators from excluding persons on the basis of religious creed from participating in airport activities that receive or benefit from FAA grant funding."

Can we now officially label the council members in these cities “bigots?”

Good. Religious liberty is a CONSTITUTIONAL right

Perversion is only a statutory “right”

The Constitution takes precedence.

Yep, these Christophobe council members went on record with their anti-religious bigotry.

Make the enemy live up to its own rules, or something like that.

Does the FAA own the airport?

The shoe is on the other foot. Good!!

The only difference I can see between CFA and other ‘fast food’ restaurants is CFA’s staff and service is typically head and shoulders above the other places.

If you were unaware of Mr. Cathy’s statements about marriage or that CFA has donated money to Christian organizations, you could go to CFA, order some of their delicious food, eat it and leave and you’d still be unaware.

What’s sauce for the goose...

"Does the FAA own the airport?"

The FAA owns the air.

"In the United States, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has the sole authority to regulate all "Navigable airspace", exclusively determining the rules and requirements for its use.."

Does the FAA also control which cable news network patrons are forced to watch?

Read the article. The FAA approves federal grants to these airports. If the airport accepts these grants, they can’t exercise religious discrimination.

As another poster commented, make the left live by their own rules.

True, but at airports they are not CFA employees. CFA licenses the operation to a third party.

No, but these rules apply to airports receiving FAA funds. Also, many airports are municipally owned, so they shouldn’t be able to discriminate either. Then the current legal climate where even private businesses are sued over gay discrimination and so on.

Are they going to be open on Sundays??

As much as I suspect this was probable religious discrimination, I suspect closed on Sundays might have something to do with it.

Of course, that is a convenient pretext to hide their religious bigotry behind. But these council members weren’t smart enough to even do that. They were overtly hostile to the company’s religious beliefs and made that the crux of their opposition.

Plenty of federal tax dollars go to airports, including from the FAA. Deny those airports all federal funding and see how quick they change their tune.

Yep, Sunday closure was the crux of the SA deal. The airport
is open on Sunday but Chick wanted to be closed.

No, Sunday closure was NOT the crux of the SA deal. Read the councils reasoning. They didn’t like CFA because CFA donated to family values organizations which upheld Christian ethics, The Salvation Army and Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

Okay what ever. What is official and what happens behind closed doors can be very different. In either case Chick
isn’t at the airport but does have other locations in and
around SA.
