New Zealand prime minister: 'I do not understand' US lack of action on gun control
Washington Examiner ^ | May 14, 2019 | Julio Rosas

New Zealand Prime Minster Jacinda Ardern expressed shock at the lack of action in the United States to implement gun control laws.

"You can draw a line and say that does not mean you need access to military-style semi-automatic weapons and assault rifles. You do not. And New Zealand has by and large absolutely agreed with that position," Ardern said in a CNN interview.

“Australia experienced a massacre and changed their laws; New Zealand had its experience and changed its laws," Ardern said, referring to the country's mass shooting at Muslim mosques in March. More than 50 people were killed during the gunman's attack

Agreed. It would take American and Canadian criminals, along with the small handful of Adam Lanzas and Gamil Gharbis and Dylan Klebolds, hundreds of centuries to equal the number of people murdered by just four governments in just one century (Soviet Russia, Nazi Germany, Communist China, and Pol Pot’s Cambodia in the last one).

Kopel wrote an excellent book that suggests that a nation's opinions of gun control is rooted generally in their nation's history. My understanding is that New Zealand was basically born out of British settlers being fearful of French settlers declaring sovereignty first. The British settlers responded by pleading with England to declare British sovereignty first.

In other words, New Zealand's history isn't that of individualists striking out on their own to build a life for themselves and their family, even if it meant fighting to be free from European tyranny. On the contrary, NZ's forefathers PLEADED with the Crown to save them. Thus, most in NZ were not raised in an individualist, American culture but were likely raised to see government as a savior, not an oppressor.

It is worth noting that recent reports suggest that not everyone in NZ has rolled over and handed in their firearms so maybe all isn't lost down there.

Think Willard Romney...

Same mindset...

Same gun grabbing obsession...

I had to look up militias vs. regular Army.

One quick reference made it sound like the War of 1812 was made up of militia. Some guy on answer.com said the Spanish American War of 1898 was the last time militias were used, with the National Guard created in 1903 to solve some of the logistical problems with the militia.

That is the one thing that concerns me - is there are very few organized private militias. Back during the Powder Alarm (1775?) when the British seized a store of powder from a town’s militia, at the end of the day, 20,000 men were marching towards Boston!

Now the Feds or police can take a guy’s 1,000 gun collection, or storm into some militia camp and we all sit on our butts. Me included. And the media portray them as criminals or nutcases.

I suppose at some point we will make the sacrifices needed to join and train as a unit. I just hope it isn’t too late. Of course we can all train individually.

Their is a group called Action Shooting International that is good practice for the recreational shooter. It is a “move and shoot” thing with pistols. Another group uses rifles and pistols. It is timed, you move through a simple course and hit man-sized targets, have to switch out magazines, etc. It is really fun and a relaxed atmosphere. Very safe, but the guys I’ve had enforce the rules with a nice reminder. There are some things that they say they will tell you to stop and leave the course. But I haven’t ever seen that happen.

She doesn’t understand - now.

Give China 10-15 more years, and she will understand very well.

After the recent mosque shooting in NZ, it seemed that the government was more concerned about shutting down the release of any videos than the actual violence.

Because of New Zealand’s gun grabbing mentality, there was no good man with a gun when they needed one. We saw how good that worked. To double down on their failed policy shows how stupid they are.

“[[New Zealand prime minister: ‘I do not understand’ US lack of action on gun control]]

That’s bec ause you have proven that you do NOT grant sovereignty to your citizens- and you do not respect man’s INALIENABLE RIGHT to self protection!”

That’s because many NZ and Aussies have their heads in the sand. They seem unaware that both India and China have their eyes on The ninety percent of their countries, especially Australia, that’s uninhabited. US blocked Japanese invasion attempts during WWII but we may not be so willing in the future.....

Well you did! :)

I have a reputation of being too free with words so I try to save it for the ones that really deserve it, like you did!
