Not really. Cars built in the last several years have steering angle sensors, tire pressure sensors, in-lane sensors, obstacle detecting radars, and more. The next generation of cars will have even more data. 5G will allow these cars to communicate with EACH OTHER. It will be quite useful to know what the car approaching you on a 2 lane highway is doing.
5G is much more than just data communications between automobiles and even for this small piece, infrastructure will be required to support the network. Peer to peer links will be insufficient.
