You’re right about Heslop. He spent something like 12-18 months in Club Fed for defrauding a So Cal indian tribe over construction contracts. It remained “Men’s” until midway thru my senior year, when old man McKenna finally coughed up the big bucks. It was something like $22 million — a pittance to have a college named after you! All of the women who graduated with that first class were given a choice of having their diploma read “Claremont Men’s College” or “Claremont McKenna Ditto.” And but two or three chose “Men’s,” and those two or three changed their mind before graduation.
Were any of you guys at CMC contemporaries with David Bloom, the NBC reporter who died in Iraq? I knew David. Not well, but we crossed paths one summer in the mid-80s.
