Weld has no chance of getting the GOP nomination.
1) During the primaries the media will make like Weld is as good as the 2nd coming of Christ. They always do that with Republicans they think will lose the general election.
2) Trump will win the nomination anyway. It's very rare an primary challenger makes any headway against an incumbent President.
3) Trump will win the general election, too.
In my lifetime when a party takes over the White House they keep it for at least two terms in a row. The only exception to this was Carter failing to win re-election in 1980. Bush Sr. was also a one-term president, but he was already the third term in a row for Republicans (he followed two terms of Reagan). So unless you think Trump will have the stunningly low popularity of Jimmy Malaise Carter, then 2020 is to Trump's advantage.

A Republican might win over Trump but only with the help of leftist because I doubt that the leftist would care. They can run the Republican Party in office as well as they do when they are in power, but this way the Republicans can look like the bad guys and get blamed for everything
