I have read the same scripture many times and do not see Peter appointed as pope anywhere. The rock is peters confession of the Christ who is the real rock the church is built on. Do not forget a few verses later Jesus looks at Peter and says “get the behind me Satan” unless you are claiming your sect is built on satan?

Isn't it ironic how in the very same passage within the very same conversation with the disciples, Roman Catholicism chooses to to take the first part literally and build a doctrine on it, but virtually ignores the second part?
