I grew up with a Japanese family in my small starter home neighborhood in west Jackson Mississippi
On the edge of farms and cattle ranches it was perfect grow up place
The Japanese family had the Jo surname and had been here since the 1800s right after the War between the States
They spoke perfect English with a southern accent.
Even though my neighborhood was about fifty percent WWII vet dads , everyone spoke with reverence of the dad who’d been severely wounded at I think Monte Cassino and limped. He owned a pharmacy where I bought my Classics Illustrated
His mom was pals with my mom.
His wife had been an army nurse at Shelby at Hattiesburg
They were highly respected and Mr Jo had a Goldwater sign out front in 1964
His son Tommy was naturally a great baseball player and I think played for Miss State
