You have also taken possession of the meal you just ate with the implied promise that you will pay the debt of the value of the meal once you have consumed it. Now, the meal you’ve eaten at the restaurant might well be different. You’ve eaten the meal and do, in fact, owe a debt to the restaurant. “All debts, public and private...” it says on FR Notes. So they have to take the cash. I believe that if they refuse the cash, the debt is cancelled. (But I don’t know that for sure).
