There are plenty of jobs available for anyone who wants to work and get out of poverty.
One is forced to conclude that our parents and grandparents must have been financial wizards then, to have purchased homes and cars, paid off mortgages, raised families, put kids thru college, and even set a little aside, all while working modest income jobs (and usually only one paycheck).
These people who can’t afford a $400 repair bill, what model smartphone and how many cable channels do they have? Just curious.
A healthy childless white male cannot walk into a welfare office and get one cent from FedGov or the state. They will tell you that to your face.
I laugh out loud when I see these Putzes talk about “poor people.” Jamie Dimon could give a hoot about poor people. Other than they are the folks that vacuum the house in the Hampton’s.
I am all for people making tons of money. I am happy for Jamie Dimon, being able to to make tons of money. But don’t piss down my back and tell me its raining.
When, in the course of history, have the poor not been left behind? It’s a literal cause/effect of being poor.
The cool thing about America is that you do not HAVE to be poor.
WTF is that? Over $4 trillion spent on the poor since the War on Poverty started and yet, there are more "poor" people now than ever before. Wonder if it's because the gov't runs the program? The gov't has a boatload of $600 hammers because there is no reason for them to be efficient. Indeed, to the extent that your prestige in DC depends upon the size of your budget, they have every reason NOT to be efficient.
As of today, there are more unfilled jobs than there are unemployed people. True, there's a mismatch in skill sets for many of them, but some of the poor need to get off their butts and start working or lose their benefits. A lady in WI called in on a Chicago radio show and said she gets about $37,500 in assistance each year and figures she'd need to find a job paying over $24/hour to just break even, and that includes 40 hours of work which she doesn't do now. Time to start cutting benefits, methinks.
Left the lazy behind.
So I will only give my employees a 2% raise and give lip service to those who don’t work and then enjoy my multi million $ bonus guilt free.
Just shows wages are still too low.
Jamie.....What man goes by the name "Jamie"?
“Fifteen percent of Americans make minimum wages, 70,000 die from opioids, annually.”
What does one have to do with the other? What is the point trying to be made here?
When I hear about Bill Gates and all the money he has accrued all I can think of is why didn’t his employees share in the bonanza? You know the people who actually do the work?
Whenever the economy is going well and the dems are not in charge, it is always the same. “The poor are being left behind.”
But notice during the Obama years when everyone was being left behind, there was no mention of it. Oh no, all was peachy.
Unless they were indentured servants, I assume the MS grunts were at liberty to take that success knowledge and make their way elsewhere.
Sounds like forty per cent of the people need to get off their ass and work harder or forever be poor.
Forty percent of Americans make less than $15 an hour. Forty percent of Americans cant afford a $400 bill, whether its medical or fixing their car. Fifteen percent of Americans make minimum wages, 70,000 die from opioids annually.
And, effing what?
That is their problem.
No one said you couldn’t aspire to more.
Explain to me what poor in America really means anyway.
Did they have to chop wood today so they could cook their food?
Do they not live close enough to a grocery store? 7-11? Liquor store or Bodega where they sell food?
Do they not have access to free medical care?
No access to public transportation?
Liberals deny how their policies CREATED this.
If you think the poor are hurt by automation and outsourcing, you don’t being in MORE POOR from other countries to compete for the few remaining jobs, pulling down their wages.
If you think that automation and outsourcing are eroding the job base, you don’t raise the minimum wage to incentivize more of both.
How many of those Americans are actually working and not receiving govt. assistance of some sort?
