AFL-CIO Slams Green New Deal

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) and Sen. Ed Markey (D-MA) may have the support of progressive politicians for their Green New Deal but they’ve lost the nation’s largest organized-labor group, the AFL-CIO.

“We welcome the call for labor rights and dialogue with labor, but the Green New Deal resolution is far too short on specific solutions that speak to the jobs of our members and the critical sections of our economy,” the AFL-CIO’s energy committee wrote in a letter to Markey and Ocasio-Cortez. “We will not accept proposals that could cause immediate harm to millions of our members and their families. We will not stand by and allow threats to our members’ jobs and their families’ standard of living go [sic] unanswered.”

WaPo also covered this but I don't want to pay to read this. There is an archive of the wapo article but FR does not allow posting archives.

Obviously no money in the deal for them.

Dear AFL-CIO: Ocasio-Cortez wants you and your members to die, after she and her friends get your money. How stupid do you have to be, AFL-CIO? Pretty damn stupid, if history is any guide.

Reagan had the support of the Teamsters as he went into the election in 1980. Jimmy Carter was just too far left; his energy policies were killing their members and therefore their dues.

“Obviously no money in the deal for them”.

No, they understand that it would be a disaster.

I doubt your average union member is warm to the idea of socialism.

Technically, what the GND proposes is fascism. They aren’t proposing the government owns the means of production, they are proposing they regulate it (likely to death.)

You betcha. In Soviet Russia the union guys had a choice: Do exactly what management wanted, or get shot.

Having said that, suppose it’s 2024, and the the presidential election is between Pence and Ocasio-Cortez. Would the AFL-CIO endorse Pence? (Answer: No way.)

So far, the glitter of AOC and gang is irresistible to the D party but they will have to do something about this schism. Will they will make an obamacare-type arrangement like exempting industries they care about? Kamala could reassure them that she would take care of them if she were potus.

Yeah, I know. The Mafia is just compassionate in that way.

She cost the city and state of New York 25,000 to 40,000 jobs and Billions of dollars in tax revenues already. It’s obvious she is easily manipulated and could care less about the unions. The woman has already pissed too many people off and her proposals do not make any sense whatsoever.

The powers that be will eliminate her district as soon as possible and give all that area to someone else that they can trust. The woman is simply a loose cannon and both her and her staff have been laundering money. It is open season on Occasionally Coherent.

She needs to go back to bartending and stealing other people’s tips instead of money laundering.

This is just a play for a bigger payoff for that fascist Trumka. Ask the rank and file about his loyalty as he drove the UMWA and the industry into the ground for fifteen years.

I believe the tear in the Democrat party fabric can not be mended.

The traditional coalitions are not holding the pressure and the center is failing. The threads holding it all together are being severed by discontent of the coalition fringes.

Nancy Pelosi is too old and lacks either the savvy or the ability to confront and win over those seeking change. Her ability is only to maintain the status quo. She is like the Russian Czar in the face of the revolution, incapable of absorbing and utilizing the change.

The mob doesn’t know what it wants except it wants something different and certainly not Trump and his Republicans

It would have to be a hell of a payoff if union members understood that the gnd would destroy the economy and much more.

If cows could be unionized, the AFL-CIO would demand twice as much grass and salt per cow and require at least three cows to produce one fart.

If you offered them Card Check in exchange for going along with the deal they’d likely take it.

What good would Card Check do for them if there are no cars or trucks to manufacture or haul stuff?....................
