This is interesting, I’d like to know more. Does this allow the family to forgo being categorized as ‘homeschooling’ by the state and associated regulations (I am in the HSLDA ‘yellow’ state of Washington and may home school)

There are many ‘distance learning programs’ and I believe it places you beyond the state’s grasp; Check with your state HS folks.

The trigger for them to attempt to spy and control you or your curriculum is when you exit the public school system. If you have the kids’ PS records transfered to a private school (whether locally or like LCS) they will have no jurisdiction.

Additionally, there are many distance learning accredited schools. U of Miami offers a high school and perhaps middle school program (it’s $$$$) and most the kids on the pro tennis circuit are educated that way.

Also, free to Floridians, and at a nominal cost to the rest, Florida Virtual Learning is an accredited program K-12 that has been around 20+ years. They offer high school AP courses and have a great reputation.

Keep in mind, accreditation is important at the HS level for college entry.

Additionally, if you want your own specific curriculum, you could just buy the cheapest long distance program, do their ‘busy work’ and submit it for strictly documentation purposes and still be homeschooling -your own way.

Good Luck.
