Byron York: House Democrats send message: Impeachment is on
Washington Examiner ^ | March 04, 2019 | by Byron York

The chairman of the House Judiciary Committee says there is no doubt President Trump has obstructed justice.

"It's very clear that the president obstructed justice," Democratic Rep. Jerrold Nadler told ABC Sunday. "It's very clear — 1,100 times he referred to the Mueller investigation as a witch hunt, he tried to — he fired — he tried to protect Flynn from being investigated by the FBI. He fired Comey in order to stop the Russian thing, as he told NBC News. He — he's dangled part — he's threat — he's intimidated witnesses. In public."

Think what you will about the reasons — calling an investigation a "witch hunt" is obstruction of justice? — but Nadler sounded less like a man weighing the evidence than a man who has has made up his mind. Given that, Nadler's ABC interview led to a question: President Nixon was threatened with impeachment for obstruction of justice. President Clinton was impeached for obstruction of justice. Why is Nadler, who heads the committee in the House that originates articles of impeachment, not moving forward with impeaching President Trump right now?

Rep. Nadler (D-Manhattan): He [Trump] fired Comey in order to stop the Russian thing, as he [Trump] told NBC News.

Trump says he didn't fire Comey 'because of Russia,' contradicting past statements

Trump's latest tweet directly contradicts remarks he made during a May 2017 interview with NBC News’ Lester Holt.

Not that it matters but I never fired James Comey because of Russia! The Corrupt Mainstream Media loves to keep pushing that narrative, but they know it is not true!

Ironically, Nadler himself has called for the firing of Comey, as reported by New York Daily News on 14 November, 2016.

Are you certain they don’t have 67 votes in the Senate?

Alexander, Graham, McSally, Murkowsky, Hoeven, Rubio, Tillis, Burr, Lankford, Gardner, Cornyn, Hyde-Smith, Collins, Sasse, Kennedy, Shelby, Ernst, Blunt, McConnell, Wicker, Portman, Isakson, Johnson, Toomey, Rounds, Thune, Daines, Barasso and Enzi are all Bush League Republicans.

Trump defending himself is obstruction of justice. Next, Trump not pleading guilty is obstruction of justice. And where are the republican leadership or the judicial branch? Ya, it’s rhetorical.

"Are you certain they don’t have 67 votes in the Senate?"

There's no way. The backlash against the Republican party would be monumental. They might as well just not run the next time because they would never get elected again. That's truly what these swamp creatures care about, the next election. They might vote against him here and there, but voting to impeach would be a bridge too far. Look at Trump's approval rating within the Republican party. It's not slipping and so it keeps them in line.

“Are you certain they don’t have 67 votes in the Senate?”

I doubt that they have more than 2 votes in the Senate now, although that may be on the high side, since I haven’t heard the impeachment word out of a single Republican now.

And the Democrats know that Trump holds MANY CARDS. He’s not going to sit back and say “I am not a crook” and be done with it. He’s going to hit them HARD on the fake dossier and the FISA warrants (in other words, an illegal investigation), and he’ll have help from his Justice Department and from the Senate. I suspect that the ONLY THING the Democrats are doing is trying to damage Trump for 2020, since they know they can’t remove him...not even close.

I would be done, done, done with the GOP if they voted to convict the President in th Senate! I wouldn’t care if we never won another election in my lifetime.

The backlash against the Republican party would be monumental.

A Judas move like that would result in violence and they KNOW it.

It does not appear to be his Justice Department.
Nor do I trust any of the Bush League Republicans in the Senate.

What really frosts me is that no one, nobody, is fighting back, is contesting the democrats.

Some Republicans will go on TV and bravely and courageously admit to being a bit concerned.

The Republicans control the Senate, with the permission of Schumer, and are doing absolutely nothing.

They are too righteous and pure minded to go after the real corrupt officials, such as Hillary and Obama and his court.

They do not have the votes in the Senate to impeach. Not a chance in a million.

Btw, I also do not think they have the votes in the House.

Given the state of the economy, etc....this is a career-ender vote. And not just for Republicans.

You would be done? Just as well, since the country will have been done.
