The Electoral College Is the Greatest Threat to Our Democracy
NY Times ^ | February 28, 2019 | Jamelle Bouie

Posted on 03/01/2019 7:38:16 AM PST by C19fan

It’s still well under the radar, but the movement to circumvent the Electoral College gained ground this week. On Sunday, Jared Polis, the governor of Colorado, said he would sign a bill to join the National Popular Vote interstate compact, whose members have pledged to give their electoral votes to the winner of the national popular vote. The Maine Legislature, likewise, is mulling membership and will hold hearings to discuss the issue.

Attacking those lawmakers, Paul LePage, the former governor of Maine — who still calls into conservative radio shows from his retirement home in Florida — dismissed the proposal as an attack on the political rights of white people. “Actually what would happen if they do what they say they’re going to do is white people will not have anything to say,” he said. “It’s only going to be the minorities that would elect. It would be California, Texas, Florida.”

The purpose of the Electoral College is not to preserve a democracy. Its function is to preserve a republic against a mass-ocracy.

The citizens of the great state of Bagman certainly do not.

The Electoral College is only a threat to the Leftist intent to turn the US into Cuba.

Hi.

“If the Chinese started offloading Infantry in Seattle and Long Beach would you rush over there toting a rifle to help out?”

I’d have to give it some thoughtful consideration.

Probably.

“The Constitution IS our form of democracy.”

Democracy is mob rule. A totalitarian manifestation. 2 wolves and a sheep deciding what’s for dinner. 2 imams and a hillary slut deciding who gets to have the clitorectomy.

The Constitution is the supreme law of the land written to keep the govt and the masses of asses(mob rule) at bay. To ensure that we have a chance at life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

BTW—Someone should tell Tucker Carlson to stop saying ‘our democracy’. He sounds like a fing moron.

The left thought it was great when they were hoping gore would win by recounting untill he won Florida.

Every time a demoncrat loses the presidential race, they want to get rid of it. Every time they win, they thank the Electoral College for the win.

Democracy is the greatest threat to the Constitutional Republic that is the United States of America.

I will not follow laws created by a 50% plus one majority rules process.

The "Constitutional Republic" was destroyed by the Civil War. The 17th Amendment drove the last nail in it's coffin and we're past democracy into an oligarchy.
The Ds and Rs are like pro wrestling. A three ring circus to keep the serfs amused.

The Dems have won the popular vote in 6 out of the last 7 elections. Rather than trying to amend the Constitution (which has little hope of success) they are now doing an end run around the Constution.

The Dems ignore Federalism and the history of how the Electoral College came about. They don't like the fact that each state has two senators. In essence, the Dems are trying to convert us into a democracy from a Republic.

"National Popular Vote interstate compact"
FR: Never Accept the Premise of Your Opponent’s Argument

Mentioned in related threads, the Founding States prohibited the states from making compacts with each other without the consent of Congress.

"Article I, Section 10, Clause 3: No State shall, without the Consent of Congress, lay any Duty of Tonnage, keep Troops, or Ships of War in time of Peace, enter into any Agreement or Compact with another State [emphasis added], or with a foreign Power, or engage in War, unless actually invaded, or in such imminent Danger as will not admit of delay."

H O W E V E R …

I wouldn’t be surprised if the anti-PDJT Congress stays silent on this unconstitutional electoral vote compact.

Additionally, patriots need to support PDJT in leading the states to comply with the 12th Amendment procedure for counting electoral votes by putting a stop to unconstitutional state winner-take-all laws imo.

Excerpted from the 12th Amendment:

"The Electors shall meet in their respective states, and vote by ballot for President and Vice-President, one of whom, at least, shall not be an inhabitant of the same state with themselves; they shall name in their ballots the person voted for as President, and in distinct ballots the person voted for as Vice-President, and they shall make distinct lists of all persons voted for as President, and of all persons voted for as Vice- President, and of the number of votes for each, which lists they shall sign and certify, and transmit sealed to the seat of the government of the United States, directed to the President of the Senate [emphasis added]; …"

Finally, bear in mind that the reason that Democrats want to do away with the electoral college is this imo. Democrats want to keep and exercise state powers that the corrupt, post-17th Amendment ratification feds have stolen from the states, including continuing to steal state revenues by means of unconstitutional federal taxes.

Again, patriots need to support PDJT in peacefully politically “forcing” corrupt Congress to surrender stolen state powers back to the states.

And to make such changes permanent, patriots likewise need to support PDJT in leading the states to repeal the 16th and ill-conceived 17th Amendments.

Remember in November 2020!

“...without one word about what type of popular vote to replace it with....”

Are you accepting the idea that the Electoral College needs to be replaced? And merely at the whim of the Times?

The Times does not like the Electoral College because it defeats “their” democratic ideal but assures the Founders ideal.

“The Dems have won the popular vote in 6 out of the last 7 elections”

There is no ‘popular vote’ to win. And the only reason they’re winning that imaginary vote is because of the 50 million illegal aliens in country.

No I am not saying it needs to be replaced. What I am saying is the advocates of abolishing the college need to state what they want to replace it with. Would the popular vote be a first past the post system so a winning candidate could conceivably have say under 40% of the vote or a run off system.

I don’t even know why they publish the “popular vote” totals since that is completely irrelevant to the process, other than as a rallying point to gin up viciousness.
