Kentucky. BTW, they have a state income tax here but it doesn’t apply to SS. And your property taxes go down significantly when you turn 65. My tax bill should be much lower next fall. I just turned 65.
I moved here from Seattle. Love it!
Good idea. Nursing homes were created to suck money from the government. The patient is kept alive as long as possible to extract the maximum amount of money. The patient is shoved full of pills, thus bringing profit to the pill companies. You have no control of yourself in a nursing home. Speak up and they send you to the psychiatrist.
I’d rather crash to the ground in a parachute than be full of tubes and have my few goods taken home by privileged members of victim groups.
Oh I dont even know if its Cleveland or Maine
With the buildings as big and rooms just the same
And the TV dont work and the french fries are cold
And the room service closed about an hour ago
Nice. That last verse didn’t make it to the album and is rarely seen.
Where are you located? Been looking for the same deal.
Sounds lovely, and that’s pretty much one of the options I have in mind. Thing is, I’ve been planning on waiting until I’m 58 or so to retire and that’s a ways off yet. Hopefully it won’t all come crashing down in the meantime.
No assisted living home?
It offers all the amenities of motel living plus medical management and assistance with the activities of daily living.
Home-cooked meals and a safe and comfortable place to stay.
Whats not to like about it?
Yep...Medicare is even encouraging this kind of help at “home” now.
If you can still work, why not be an over the road trucker and just have a small apartment and storage unit for the things you won’t have with you?
I can see for a single person how this might be ideal.
Party’s over the day you roll an IV in there.
Assisted living can cost A LOT.
Thanks for sharing. Sounds wonderful. I hope to work till 67. Not sure what then.
Yup. Its better one live independently if possible. The problem is affordable housing is often in short supply and theres a waiting list.
So you have to take whats on hand, not necessarily what you want and youre in no position to turn it down if Medicaid picks up the tab.
Very few seniors are wealthy enough to live where and how they want.
My Mom was in an assisted living facility, for almost 10 years and the cost of the room was $365 a day. Their primary concern $$. If she had any minor incident, off to the hospital she went and was usually back before the day was out. The highlight of their daily activity..BINGO! When she took a fall last Feb. the assisted living facility wouldn’t take her back until she had physical therapy I decided it was nursing home time. Mind you, she was approaching her 100th birthday. The nursing home was wonderful, the care exceptional and it was less expensive than the assisted living facility. She died a month after her 100th and she died happy. Our entire family was really impressed with this particular nursing home.
He may not be an expert on nursing homes....
.... but he DID stay at a Holiday Inn last night.
The Home And Community Based Services Waiver.
Feds dont mind because an AL home is a lot cheaper than a nursing home.
I’m 65. I’m going for 67-70. :)
South Central KY.
I can build on my property without building permits. The only time I really have to get the government involved is for septic.
You aren’t supposed to be in a “nursing home”, unless you need medical care.
What an idiot.
