Is Nathan Phillips guilty of stolen valor?
Does anyone know how to look into Phillips service?

Bump.
His use of the words “Marine” and “Ranger” and “Recon” together seems highly suspect, since the Rangers are Army. The USMC has “Recon” but not “Ranger” designations, so far as I’ve ever heard (correction welcome if this is wrong).
Also, since he would have been 17-18 yrs. old at the very end of the Vietnam period, the time frame should be researched to see whether he has lied about combat service (I have not tried to review all of his public statements and interviews, just raising the questions).
He may have served but not been in the combat theater (ala Dick Blumenthal).... or is it possible he never was in the military at all??? He would be too likely to mangle his service details if he had actually served, would he? Ofc it is possible that ignorant churnalists are the ones who have bungled references to his military service.
The case definitely calls for research to know if the guy is what he claims to be.
