Tesla delivered a catastrophic blow to its U.S. workforce this Friday. In a memo reviewed by the Wall Street Journal, CEO Elon Musk said the company will be slashing its staff by 7%.

Despite announcing its first gigafactory outside of the United States in Shanghai barely over a week ago, the electronic car maker will be handing over 3,000 of its 45,000-strong workforce their leaving papers.

So?
Still a great product.

It should not be subsidized to one penny by the American taxpayer.

I’d say getting off fossil fuels is inevitable. That includes vehicles eventually. But I don’t see the need to spend billions forcing people to do it.

Musk hasn’t met his production rate on the low end car. He is the worst kind of boss to work for......unrealistic, egocentric, and sporadic in his behavior

Yes, electric cars are desirable. Maybe not for everyone, but not for nobody either. If they can hit break-even with ICE vehicles, crossover purchases will be significant.

I had an EV for a couple years. Y’all naysayers don’t know what you’re missing.

...

You get it, but it’s disconcerting how many commenters on this thread obviously know nothing about Tesla owners.

When you already can’t meet his production demands? Yeah.....because he’s either getting rid of sales or manufacturing or what’s left of his engineering staff

They haven’t met product goals for the low end. Musk is a lunatic and the folks who might have directed him to a rational decision left almost six months ago

Correct.
Blame your lawmakers for enacting those credits, not Musk for making use of the truckloads of money thrown at his customers to encourage them.

BTW: that taxpayer money has been way more than paid back.

Not sure I agree we abandon fossil fuels entirely. Not in our lifetimes and not with gas less than $2 per gallon.

My son has a Prius and my daughter has a Volt.

Both were bought to save on gas which is sky high where we live (Hawaii)

They love these cars. It’s my son-in-law’s 3rd Prius.

He’s just waiting for used Tesla’s to come on the market.

Electric cars require more energy to run than any gas gussler.

I ain’t missing nothing

Sort of like Apple owners, but that is another thread.

A few parallels would emerge I'd bet.

I'm no expert, but I would do research on the value of used EV with the remaining battery life left, and replacement costs. I have read they are very costly to replace the battery.

“At least this is just Musk’s car company.”

In our local paper there have been a couple of things about his other endeavors.
1. project to build a facility at the Port cancelled. A big blow to local plans to make a “Silicon” Shore at the Port of LA. Why? “Streamlining” — that rocket will be built at facility in Texas instead.

2. Space X laying off about 700 people in LA. Also “streamlining” to reduce costs.

7% is nothing

Jack Welch fired his bottom 10% each and every year. His successors are pissing away GE.

Right now we’re a center-right nation. But will it remain that way that much longer? We can see how the Democrats are becoming more leftist every day.

Inevitable as in a few hundred years from now.
Not inevitable as in during the twenty-first century.

The electric cars and hybrids cause significant EMF wave exposure to passengers. Some of the highest EMF exposure areas are back seats, where the kids sit.
