I don't know, cause I wasn't there. Dad got a good laugh out of it though. Dad made sure to let me know it was a woman running the stand before I met her.
It was hard to tell. She sure didn't go out of her way to look like a woman.

At a fast food stand forty years ago, I got burgers and said “Thank you ma’am” to the person there.
The reply I got was “HEY, I’M A GUY!”
“Oops, sorry.” I said. Really I could not tell the difference! Young feminine boy teen with long hair. Still looked like a girl.
Several years ago when I visited friends in California, at the beach I saw two women in black dresses walking past me. The short one was definitely a girl. The taller one definitely was not. A tall thin man with no beard, but definitely a man.
