Trump orders McDonald's for football champions as shutdown cuts staff
The Guardian UK ^ | 14 Jan 2019 | Matthew Cantor

Any champion football player disappointed with Monday’s dinner at the White House can blame Democrats, according to a presidential spokesman. Clemson University’s football team on Thursday joined Donald Trump for dinner to celebrate their win over Alabama in the College Football Playoff National Championship. However, the government shutdown has left much of the White House staff furloughed, forcing the president to set the menu, the spokesperson said. The event created a golden culinary opportunity for a president whose typical evenings reportedly often involve a cheeseburger in front of the TV. On Monday’s menu was “McDonald’s, Wendy’s and Burger King’s with some pizza”, Trump told reporters.

Fox News showed those big guys loading up on burgers and pizzas and enjoying their impromptu party. Pres. Trump enjoyed it as much as they did. Clemson made their families, fans and school proud again.

“Bet there was lots of ketchup”

Twice maybe three times a year I will eat a fast food burger. Mac’s ain’t a favorite but it’ll do... and they have NEVER screwed up my order. It’s not a difficult order but you would be surprised.

I order a cheeseburger, no ketchup, no onions... only mustard and pickle.

I even had one well known joint scrape the ketchup off... the red stain on the bun was a dead giveaway. I have even had the manager cp5me to the window and clarify the order cuz the low information window tech was having a moment and got cornfuzed...

But that Scottish joint hasn’t let me down yet.

Actually, rather insulting. Trump could pay personally to cater

Apparently, according to the article (and to what I heard earlier today) part of the WH staff is furloughed due to the shutdown.

IIRC, POTUS and family have to defray the costs of their food as well at all times.

Was thinking the same thing.

Chick-fil-A would have really ticked the liberals off.

Which would have been awesome.

But maybe being from South Carolina they would have preferred Hardee’s or Chik-Fil-A....

I don't know why, but Bojangles has a following in that area. I do appreciate the fact that it is the only place left that I know of that still has the all-but-defunct Patio soda.

Trump told reporters ahead of the event that the meal was for “very large people that like eating.”

The White House confirmed Trump would be paying for the meal.

ROTFL LOL

He did personally pay to cater. He ordered fast food. He likes fast food. I’ve not met many football players who don’t like to eat fast food every now and again.

I would eat McDonalds with the president and not be insulted. It seems like most of the time, these teams are invited for a quick photo op. This time, the president had them in a week after they won the national championship, and he did it without a lot of hoopla. I like it. I appreciate Dabo’s coaching of his team as well. Roll Tide!

They’re a university team and they were invited into the White House? That alone would make most folks totally forget about the food or what was for lunch. Gezzz.

And the author of this is suggesting some football player on the team was concerned or offended by the menu?

The more people I meet the more I love my dog.
