Democrats have big ideas for scrapping republican democracy
American Thinker ^ | 01/06/2018 | Monica Showalter

Not content with just raising taxes and calling it "good for us," Democrats are arriving in this new Congress with big ideas.  Big, big, very big ideas.

No more of that Clintonian reform around the edges, the small-fry midnight basketball thing – Democrat plans today are bigger.  They'd like to start by remodeling the Constitution, for one.  After all, it always seemed to get in the way of their big plans to create a New Soviet, er, American Man, er, Myn, or whatever they call it, so now they're effectively admitting they've never liked it, and now they want to get rid of it.

One of them, incoming Rep. Steve Cohen of Tennessee, has put out a bill to eradicate the entire electoral college.

According to CNN:

Rep. Steve Cohen has proposed two constitutional amendments, one that would abolish the Electoral College and another that would prohibit presidents from pardoning themselves, their families, members of their administration or their campaign staffs.

The idea is to institute "direct democracy" over the current republican form of government, and ultimately, tyranny of the majority.  They'd very much like to rub out the votes of all those people who live in red states who voted for Trump, those bothersome places such as Wisconsin, which take so much time and effort to travel to.  That way, they can focus solely on coastal blue states and enable their lording it over the red states with no say-so from the latter.

Writer Nick Nolte at Breitbart exposes the issue well:

Desperate to bring the Tyranny of the Majority to our representative democracy, on the first day Democrats assumed control of the House of Representatives, Rep. Steve Cohen (D-TN) submitted a bill to kill the electoral college.

7. Establish *slam as a State Religion, in violation of Amendment #1, but disguising the action as “inclusiveness.”

I think the government has already done this.

For years the Democrats have referred to the Constitution as a living document. What that means is they can interpret it any way they want depending on the particular situation.

They are pulling out all the stops - any other President would have caved to them by now and they are getting frantic as trump reacts more strongly as time goes on...

Are you going to put your forthcoming suicide on Pay Per View?

It might raise enough money for the wall.

“Fundamental Transformation”, as Barack Hussein Obama Called it.

To kill our constitutional republic. To kill our liberties. To kill free speech. To kill our votes. To take our guns. To control our daily lives. To rule us.

To kill America.

If we're looking at "big ideas" to reshape the federal government, here are mine that do NOT break the Constitution to do it.

Here are some excerpts of a lengthy post of mine from the Ted Cruz Term Limits thread:

In the House, I'd look at two areas: 1) reforming district reapportionment and gerrymandering, and 2) increasing the number of districts from 435 to some higher number.

For gerrymandering, I understand the need to keep natural communities together (where straight grid-mapping may not work), so perhaps a reapportionment that keeps geographic ZIP codes together might work. Try grid-mapping whole ZIP codes instead of snaking "ethnic" zones into districts that protect incumbents.

For House size, the current limit of 435 Representatives was set by the The Permanent Apportionment Act of 1929 based on the census of 1910 when the population was 92,228,496. The result of the 2010 census was 308,745,538, a 235% increase in the last 100 years. Maybe it's time to increase the size of the House? This would rebalance the party split in Congress, as well as increase the Electoral College to influence presidential elections.

In summary, the better alternatives to "term limits" are:

1. Repeal the 17th amendment.
2. Fix the gerrymandering problem in the House.
3. Increase the size of the House to match current population.

Maybe with a larger and more fairly redistricted House, we won't see controversial splits between the Electoral College result and the so-called "popular vote" that the left uses to delegitimize results it doesn't like?

Do these things and a natural term limit will be restored across all of the federal government.

Why is it so hard for these supposedly Republican writers to understand that America is a Constitutional Republic?

The obvious answer is that they know exactly what they're doing when they misstate our form of government.
The question then becomes...why are they doing it?

The obvious answer is that the Constitution is just as much a problem for them as it is for the Democrats.

They need 290 votes and but Dems control only 234.

Excellent point.

The Dems know this......and that is precisely part of the plan.
To sow confusion among the electorate....than blame all of their failures on Repubs.

All their bluster and bravado.....they are more like invaders.....an army waging war on a peaceful people.

<>The Republican-controlled Senate has to stand its ground.<>

There’s a knee-slapper. But, I’ll admit the GOP is ready to do the right thing as long as it doesn’t risk media criticism.
