Trump admin wants to send more troops to border to string concertina wire

WASHINGTON — The Department of Homeland Security has requested more U.S. troops to be deployed at the border to add 160 miles of concertina wire on top of existing border fencing, according to three U.S. officials.

If approved by Acting Secretary of Defense Patrick Shanahan, the addition of troops to enhance the fencing could extend the military's current deployment at the border until the end of September, based on the rate of construction, according to two officials. The military mission, which began two months ago, was set to end on Jan. 31.

The fencing that is to be reinforced with concertina wire is not new. The troops currently deployed at the border have already added concertina wire at ports of entry in Arizona, Texas and California. The request for troops to add an extra 160 miles of wire was first reported by NPR.

Construction of new barriers at the border remains a matter of debate between President Trump and Democrats in Congress. The president has refused to approve any spending bill that does not include funds for a wall, which has led to the partial shutdown of the government.

DHS is requesting more military engineers to install the concertina wire, more aviation support to move troops around the area, medical personnel and surveillance equipment, according to two sources.

If the request is approved, the Pentagon will decide how many troops to send and whether they will be active duty or National Guard troops.

“If approved by Acting Secretary of Defense Patrick Shanahan,”

Huh? 100’s of thousands of miles of concertina wire should have been piled across our border month one.

Well, this is the line in the sand.

The RATS make no bones about it - they stand there and lie and spout absurdities like “we’re all safer with no walls!” and “sanctuary cities reduce crime!.” This isn’t a mere difference of opinion. This is a danger to our country and these people are traitors and should be treated as such and condemned as such by every good person in America.

President Trump needs to make a national address and point this out. Then he needs to send in the military to build the damn wall and cut the obstructionist traitorous RATS out of the picture. THEN he needs to inform them that he’s getting his wall, and they can go pound sand before he green lights ANYTHING they put on his desk.

The concertina wire is both helpful and troublesome. I dont know if it is helping to deter crossing or not but I assume that it helps. One problem is that they keep cutting it in high traffic areas and then it has to be repaired. The bigger problem is injuries, we have had a lot of people cutting their hands on the wire. That means that they have to go to the hospital and it takes two border agents for everyone person in the hospital. So every time it happens it takes two agents out of the field and some nights it happens multiple times.

The DoD and the Army DOSEN'T want to follow orders. They refuse to patrol our borders with any strength. Only half hearted deployments with show troops..

The DoD is not our friend.

Pull all the troops home. Why police the world when our stupidly run Army can't even secure our open borders.

Why is a bad thing to give an “exit date” from < insert middle eastern hell hole nation here > but it is A-ok to tell the world when US troops will leave the border with Mexico? Hmmm?

I know what I am talking about, I am a border patrol agent. There have been nights that we dont have people to work traffic because we have so many agents at the hospital. People have no idea how many illegals we take to the hospital each night. Now all juveniles have to looked at by an EMT or taken to the hospital for a doctor to check. Yes that is every juvenile caught no exception.

Wire should have been rolled out in 2017 until the fence can be constructed.

Every US troop deployment around the world is open ended, unlimited in mission scope and lasts forever except if it is a deployment to our southern border with Mexico. A troop deployment to our southern border is always limit in size, mission scope and duration with a specific end date. Why?

Seems some military medics might handle that situation.
