Lawmakers from Germany’s grand coalition government said on Wednesday that they were considering introducing a “mosque tax” for German Muslims, similar to the church taxes that German Christians pay.
Thorsten Frei, a member of Chancellor Angela Merkel’s Christian Democrats (CDU) told Die Welt daily that a mosque tax was “an important step” that would allow “Islam in Germany to emancipate itself from foreign states.”
In Germany, church taxes are collected from practicing Catholics and Protestants in order to fund church activities. They are collected by the state and then transferred to religious authorities.
In the absence of a similar tax, mosques in Germany are reliant upon donations, raising concerns about possible financing by foreign organizations and governments, which has sometimes prompted questions about the promotion of fundamentalist ideologies. For example, there has been growing concern about the influence of the Turkish-Islamic Union for Religious Affairs (DITIB), an arm of the Turkish government based in Germany. […]

The way things look, most of Europe will be paying the jizya soon enough.
One could hope that it would have the effect of neutering the mosques the way that it has neutered the state churches in Germany. Of course in reality, the mosques would take the tax funding AND continue receiving funds from Muslim countries and foreign organizations.

It’s a convenience for Muslims, as already Christians are treated. Germany has for a long time had a “Church tax” where, if you are a baptized Christian, automatically 8% of your income is taken out of your salary, and given to your particular Church denomination. Unless you pro-actively declare yourself a non-believer....and sign all the relevant paper-work affirming that, that 8% is deducted.
This is how a very secular country, where less than 5% attend church, keeps up all its many ancient church buildings. This is also why the church is so unsuccessful in Germany—as it’s (partly) beholden to the state.
Most are unwilling to openly declare themselves unbelievers....(even if they are) and hence, the church still gets their money. Evidently this isn’t done with Muslims yet.
Government officials may think they may have more control over Mosques—if they are dependent on the government collecting their tithes, as a “tax,” like the famous “Church Tax.”
You mean for Muslims to pay the “Jizya”?
Good luck with that, it will make them erupt in terrorism; and given Germany’s cowardice in dealing with a few minor attacks, they will show France what total humiliation looks like.
In Germany you can’t even criticize muslims.
This is a pure showpiece all leaders there know will never happen.

They may have waited 10 years too long to start acting with any authority. Expect there to be protest at any demand. At the first chanting protest, Merkel or one of her minions will say ‘Never Mind! Sorry to offend you’.

That’s what Old Europe is about, i.e. the aspects thereof that the USA’s formation was characteristic of rejecting in favor of religious freedom.
About 500 euros per head per visit ought to be about right.

So to create an anti Christian society, they tax it? Why not all religions? Germany has certainly succeed in diminishing true Christianity to the dusty corners.

Here in the US, we give them total property tax exemption.I wonder if the Jews are taxed in Germany? The Hindus? Buddhists?

That spells Trouble with the muzzies. The government will collect the tax and the "muzzie religious authorities" will fund the next batch of terrorists with the money and continue meeting in dining halls and vacant buildings.
