Three Roadblocks to Ending The Shutdown
rollcall ^ | December 22, 2018

Biggest hurdle appears to be a president unsure of how much border barrier funding he would accept

As senior White House officials huddled in Capitol backrooms with Democratic leaders Friday as a government shutdown beckoned, a cable news anchor dramatically called the last-ditch meetings a sign “something big is in motion.” Reality check: Major differences remain with no clear plan on resolving them.

Vice President Mike Pence, Acting White House Chief of Staff Mick Mulvaney and senior White House adviser Jared Kushner met with Senate Minority Leader Charles E. Schumer and House Speaker Paul D. Ryan as the clocked ticked down. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Kent., was involved in the eleventh-hour talks, as were shutdown averting-minded senators. Cable news and Twitter lit up with declarations that a deal was imminent.

When Trump gets $5 billion for the boarder wall. I’ll guess mid January.

The last time the Democrats panicked when they realize that the Republicans weren’t being blamed but they were. Somehow we need to get them to blink again and quick ... before the ever weak kneed Republicans in Congress do.

Hopefully, when all is said and done, Trump will tell America we did fine while it was shut down, and tell all those unneeded furloughed workers, “YOU’RE FIRED”

“...unsure of how much border barrier funding he would accept...”

DJT is a negotiator; that decision can be made dynamically. You don’t show your cards up front.

Once it is shown that everything is just fine with these non essential people gone. Then Trump should recommend that the house put up a bill to help all the government employees that lose thier job with short term financial aid and help finding a job. Next, close down another 25% of government and repeat.

Only 8% of the federal government will be affected. And since most federal employees are off for the next 4 days (and a large percentage will taking vacation days until Jan 2), we’ll see practically no change.

The current Congress isn’t coming back until after Christmas unless ordered to do so. And the next one is sworn in Jan 3. So at least a couple after that.

I’m saying 14 days of non-stop coverage of how awful it is that a few hundred employees at the Cattle Observation and Witnessing Flatulence Authority Regulation Taskforce (COWFART) are staying home and watch porn instead of at work.

Trump should demand 1 billion more for each day the government is down.

IF I were Trump-—I would UP THE ANTER...

The amount as of Friday midnight was $5 Billion.

Every 24 hours-—ADD $10 Billion to what he will accept & sign.

Keep it up until they cave.

Keep removing money from other places to support his position during all these various time deadlines.

Trump should do what Israel did issue bonds for the wall
Tax Free 3% wall bonds, and the $5 billion will appear over night. if hundreds of thousand gave gofundme money with no interest, millions will snap up 3% bonds issued by the US Treasury.

Most band CD’s don’t pay that and most stocks don’t pay that and they are not backed by the US Government.

1. what is wrong with using the nuclear option? the democrats have used the nuclear option in the past, and i have little doubt that they will do it in the future if given a chance.

2. what is wrong with passing a law authorizing the use of the Koflage gofundme funds from private citizens? most of the political arguments seem to be about costs. the gofundme funds solve the cost issue so far as it goes. the current rate is $3M/day. The wall costs $21M/mile, so that is 1 mile every seven days (not bad).

>>I’m predicting around 45 days<<

My preference would be for the shutdown to remain in effect until the next presidential election.

Wouldn’t matter if it was possible to issue such bonds. Congress still has to approve spending the money.

Chuckie came out and made his false statements and pretty much said Trump ain’t getting none of what he wants no matter what happens to the government - sounds like he named it and claimed it because he needs to let us know how potent a limp “Richard’ can be against a real man....
