US Lawmaker Suggests ‘WallCoin’ to Fund Trump’s Mexico Border Wall

Ohio Congressman Warren Davidson thinks crowdfunding may provide a solution to the controversial proposal of building a wall on the Mexican border.

And, perhaps more notably, he suggested using a cryptocurrency to do so.

During an interview with NPR’s Steve Inskeep, the U.S. lawmaker explained that he has already proposed letting the American public pay for the wall, which is opposed by Democrats but mades up a key aspect of President Donald Trump’s list of 2016 campaign promises. In particular, Davidson told Inskeep, he has suggested a private funding program wherein “the American people, or whomever should choose to donate,” (including residents of Mexico) would be able to fund the wall’s construction.

He went on to add:

“You could do it with sort of like a crowdfunding site or you could do a blockchain and you could have WallCoins, but you could raise the money and frankly if we get it right at the Treasury you could even pay with Mexican pesos.”...[snip]

Davidson is an outspoken supporter of the cryptocurrency space, having previously held a round-table event with more than 80 representatives from both the crypto and finance industries to discuss possible legislation for initial coin offerings.

Maybe set up a non-profit org dedicated to national security so donors could deduct the donation on their taxes. They could come up with $5 billion in about a year, I’d bet.
<I know it sounds simplistic and the deep state would fight tooth and nail against it, but just a thought.

What is wrong with people here?

WE already pay our taxes and these thieves have OUR money.

But that is OK, you go ahead and donate again to the coffers of these thieves. Shear stupidity but your money.

It’s a nice positive thought. But it is important to remember that congressional approval for wall funding is actually two fold. Funding is only one half of it, the other half is also the congressional approval and permission to build it gained at the same time.

This is a trap.

The public will not pay enough and then the whole project must be dropped for lack of funds

Put a checkbox on the 1040 to direct a portion of your taxes to a dedicated wall fund. Or to donate a part of your refund for the same thing. ................................. I would but for the past few years, I ended up paying the IRS.

The public is already ‘donating’. It’s called taxes.

If there is to be funding to build the wall, it’s the responsibility of the entire population to ‘contribute’ for building it.

We are already paying for the defense of the country. Defense includes securing our borders. Change the laws to include border security in the defense budget, and classify our border forces as a separate division of our armed forces. Homeland security should not be under civilian control, and there should not be unions involved in personnel decisions or hiring.

Regrettably citizens providing the money does not overcome the appropriations clause of the Constitution.

That part is done. Congress passed a vote to build the border fence in 2006. Of course, Democrats say that it was for a “fence”, not a wall. Estimates for the cost was up to 50 billion over 25 years.

Pillboxes. ??????? ................. Really, why not just a good ROE? The Cartels have the money, and there are many Rogue nations who will be more than happy to supply them with heavy weapons. Remember, the Drug lords, need customers, and the USA is an easy to place find them. These hordes of people contain their future sales staff, its easy money to them if they make it here. Yeah your $8 an hour motel maid can earn 100K+ working on the side, and using the maid service as a cover. We hear of the 2M bust drug shipment, but for one how many more slipped through? There doesn’t seem to be a shortage. Drugs are pushed to destroy us from within. Even with the wall, we will have problems. Look at Israel, best border protection and ROE, and they are still vulnerable. Anyone know if Russia has this problem? They have a border 3-4 times larger than ours and are surrounded by other nations. If they don’t have the same problem, they must be doing something right.

Yes, treat it as unreported income, and impose the top rate income tax on any transfer our of the country. These funds are earmarked for the wall.

Come April 15th they can file and report the income sources for each transfer and their total annual income and get a refund on any excess withholding, just like the rest of us.

So you’re saying a rancher can’t build a wall on his own property with money private citizens freely gave him to build that wall?

Source for that law, please?

Folks donated to help set the Statue of Liberty in place. They can donate to set the Statue of Limits on Immigration in place.
