High tech centers seem to grow on their own. Silicon Valley had lots of defense contractor’s post WW II and, of course, Hewlett-Packard Packard started here. But now it’s the sheer concentration of companies with the amassed brainpower. That is what eventually overtakes the universities. Sounds like that is what happened in Austin.

This is ultimately the case here. I'm sure our state officials are tossing out plenty of incentives - our pack of idiots with an (R) next to their name, who are running the state, seem to turn into liberals at the thought of companies expanding in Texas, and they began tossing around tax breaks and incentives like nobody's business. I've been in on the process of a few companies choosing to expand here, and incentives from state and local officials had little to do with it, but that's a secret between us.

Anyways, Texas is incredibly appealing to many tech companies, so none of this is a surprise at all. And all of the major players have large presences here in Texas, even if they don't seem like it (due to being broken up into smaller campuses/locations).

Just to give you an idea - the US Army Futures Command is setting up shop here: https://www.army.mil/article/210371/establishment_of_army_futures_command_marks_a_culture_shift

DFW had long history of electronic manufacturing. Much of it military. Also Aircraft manufacturing.

Cutting edge in electronic design is not taught in the Universities. The brightest and best work for companies.

I’ve actually know incredible non-degreed engineers, who worked in Military contracted company.
