Former Nixon WH lawyer: Congress will have 'little choice' but to begin impeachment proceedings

Former Nixon White House lawyer John Dean said he thinks Congress will have "little choice" but to begin impeachment proceedings against President Donald Trump following a Friday evening court filing involving Trump's former lawyer Michael Cohen.

[Snip]

Dean, who served time in prison for his involvement in the Watergate scandal, was discussing a sentencing memo from the Manhattan US attorney's office, which was the first time prosecutors have said Cohen acted at the direction of Trump when the former fixer made payments to silence women who claimed to have had affairs with Trump prior to his time running for office.

Trump has denied the affairs and has not been accused of any crimes related to the payments.

https://www.newsweek.com/bernie-sanders-campaign-illegal-contribution-828044 . . . Bernie fined $14.5k for campaign finance violations - receiving foreign contributions. [Collusion?]

https://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2017/oct/25/fec-complaint-accuses-clinton-dnc-violations/ . . . Hillary violated the same laws - paying for foreign information and then hiding that payment as “legal services”. [Collusion?]

https://www.politico.com/story/2013/01/obama-2008-campaign-fined-375000-085784 . . . Obama was fined $375,000 for failing to report over 1,000 large contributions in the last 20 days before the election.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/archive/politics/2002/09/21/fec-issues-record-fines-in-democrats-scandals/2d2ed242-98e1-40a8-8574-caef4b7570e3/?noredirect=on&utm_term=.c78a90a161f0 . . . Clinton-Gore was fined $2,000 while the DNC was fined $115,000 for contributions from fake corporations set up to funnel foreign money. [Collusion?]

There are other fines, but the point has been made. And the Deep State acts like it’s appropriate to impeach President Trump over a perhaps vaguely campaign related personal payment rather than imposing a fine. What happened to “Equal Justice Under Law” as an ideal worthy of engraving on the front of the United States Supreme Court building? Democrats disgust me, as do those republicans complicit in the Deep State.

Liberal propaganda stream is assertion Trump committed two felonies.

What are they talking about?

I don’t even know what they’re trying to distort.

John Dean was a Trump-hater from the git-go.

Dean is a very conventional person. Hard for him to grasp an iconoclast like Trump.

That's what a lot of Trump hatred is. Hatred of the kind of man that is needed to destroy the existing but failed order of things.

I think is why the Bushes and Tillerson really hate Trump. They were very convention people.

Good. A focus on impeachment means less time for goofy gun control and climate change laws.

I’m curious to find out how they will prove that the “hush money” was a campaign contribution.

Does anybody know which federal statute explicitly defines what a “campaign contribution” is?

Sometimes, the idea of The Purge movies becomes more attractive. The Left should think about the potential consequences of their actions.

And a gang of influential constituents behind Nixon started pushing most favored nation trade status for China. They are not our friends, and they’re not loyal to our country.

Other than ratting on Nixon, what is Dean’s big accomplishment in life?

Anyone who thinks they aren’t going to proceed against the president, to a conviction, hasn’t been paying attention or is stupid. They have their “crime”, they have their accused...and The Law has been and is their plaything. Trump has been unable to stop known CRIMINALS conducting an illegal investigation from investigating HIMSELF. This will fall to the American people or America is over.

There’s a lot to what you say.

I know some conventional conservatives, the kind who are afraid to be different.

Their dislike for Trump is visceral, but their ability to articulate a reasonable case against him is pathetically weak.

When did John Dean change his first name from Judas?

He is consistent.

Does anyone know about the cable "contributor" fees ? I understand they are paid handsomely for their on-call presence. I'll guess between 100-500K annually, but would like confirmation. Sometimes you'll see some unknown professor/lawyer appearing every hour and/or on every show--usually on the weekend when no other contributors are available. It's a sham.

What a nice gig if you can get it. Better tell them what they want to hear, eh ?
