President Trumps picks for attorney general and U.N. ambassador have run into immediate opposition from Democrats -- suggesting both nominees could face tough confirmation hearings.
Trump announced Friday morning that he plans to nominate William Barr, the George H.W. Bush-era leader of the Justice Department, as his next attorney general to replace former AG Jeff Sessions. Fox News is told Trump liked the respect Barr commands and the fact that he has earned bipartisan support in the past. If confirmed, he would replace Matthew Whitaker, the former Sessions chief of staff who took over as acting attorney general last month.
He also announced that he has chosen State Department spokeswoman Heather Nauert to succeed outgoing U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley, who is stepping down from her role in January.
But it is unclear whether either Nauert or Barr will garner bipartisan support given the politically charged environment on the Hill. Barr in particular drew concerned statements from Democrats -- particularly in the shadow of FBI Special Counsel Robert Muellers ongoing Russia probe. House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., called Barrs pick deeply concerning.
Barr has spent the past two years auditioning for this job by stoking partisan attacks on our nations law enforcement community, and encouraging the President to use the Justice Department as a political weapon to pursue his rivals and undermine investigations into Trump and his familys scandals, she said, before saying Barrs selection was the latest in the Presidents pattern of installing partisan hacks in the highest reaches of our government who will happily do his bidding.
Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., expressed concern about Barrs expansive views of executive power and partisan statements about pardons, the Mueller investigation and Hillary Clinton.

So H W has not been in his grave 24 hours and Pelousy is telling us that his AG was nothing but a political hack. Stay classy Ms Botox
They’re obstructing the Barr nomination, because they want to push the President out of office before being prosecuted themselves. Some real noise on the way.
They’re obstructing the Nauert nomination, because their richest constituents want to finish helping some foreign enemy nations to build up against us with loyalty-free trade.
Doesnt matter. Just kubuki theater. Trump has the votes in the Senate.
Heck, if President Trump picked Hillary and Bill for something, the Demscum would turn on them.
These buzzsaws are blunted, since there are only gonna be 47 KKKcommunists in the Senate.
The loud and completely ineffectual buzzsaw of Senate opposition invariably helps Trump immensely. Barr and Nauert, unfortunately, will get banged up a bit but at the end of the day, the Senate Dems will be bloodied much worse.
He served as HW's AG from May of 1990 until Nov. 26 1991, during which time Clarence Thomas was nominated to the Supreme Court and confirmed, something that wouldn't have happened without his support. At his confirmation hearings he gave the opinion that Roe vs. Wade was improperly decided. Then, at that time, overall, "the media described Barr as staunchly conservative. The New York Times described the 'central theme' of his tenure to be: 'his contention that violent crime can be reduced only by expanding Federal and state prisons to jail habitual violent offenders."
By the time the DemonShits finish smearing him with everything up to and including mass satanic child abuse, there's a reasonable chance he might make a good AG.
There’s no buzzsaw. The Senate will approve both nominations.
Fox news is stupid as a ton of bricks. Time to start warning Fox News that it’s no longer safe to venture into flyover territory. Just sit in NYC and regurgitate Soros Nazi crap, weenie boys.
The UN ambassador isn’t particularly important, but I wonder if this “bipartisan” William Barr is intended to be a blood sacrifice? Seriously, after Jeff “the weakling” Sessions, you would hope that President Trump would get the message, to nominate a real hard ass who would purge the Justice Department and then start issuing indictments like crazy against all the big name Democrats who have flouted the law with total impunity.
He could run federal grand juries around the clock for years to put dozens of scoundrels in prison. But first he must be confirmed as Attorney General. Barr is just too establishment to rock the boat by doing thing like indicting Democrats for breaking the law.
So what I figure is that President Trump would put up this Barr guy during the lame duck session, calculating that the Democrats the RINOs and the turd ball Jeff Flake would vote against him. This would tick off the incoming senate so that the next Republican senate would be rock solid in favor of the hard ass real nominee.
Some interesting background on Barr at post 47, seems like he might be conservative.
Does it even matter what Dems say? We have 53 votes. Done deal.
Yep, the RATs are throwing stuff against the wall hoping something will stick with a few R’s in the senate, I’ll bet they don’t have a chance.
Maybe I have a different perspective on “qualified” appointees. I don’t care how lovely or handsome their outward appearance. I’m concerned about their possessing the proper job experience and demeanor to do the job.
What weight does the UN carry ? NONE.
So give the hand wringers something to whine about.

Some were saying that because Lindsey promised to help the President get the guy seated, it proved there was something wrong with him....
I wonder what they can derive from Pelosi's attacks on the guy.....
Yes, but with a mountain of a mess, and a vast number of criminal Democrats running around without threat, is just being a conservative enough?
That is, we need a pit bull conservative, who will convene a lot of grand juries around the US and start issuing indictments to all these creeps, *while* at the same time purging corrupt Justice, State, IRS, ATF, NOAA, and even Pentagon officials.
Seriously, he needs to ride herd on federal prosecutors across the US so that these scoundrels have no choice but to permanently flee the US and federal marshals to stay out of prison.
He needs to be President Trump’s sword, *on top of* a huge amount of regular federal prosecutions that are horribly backlogged because of former presidents.
This is why there was such a collective groan when Sessions proposed restarting the drug war. Because it was putting a tourniquet on the only limb that was *not* bleeding profusely. A profound waste of money and effort at a time when we desperately need *political* law and order.
And Sessions never did “get around” to doing what needed to be done.
