5 Republicans who could challenge Trump in 2020
The Week ^ | December 6, 2019 | Matthew Walther

Posted on 12/06/2018 5:15:33 PM PST by C19fan

Remember when half of American white males over the age of 40 declared themselves for the Republican presidential nomination in 2016? There were so many candidates that they couldn't fit them all on two packed debate stages. One guy stayed in after receiving a grand total of 12 votes in the Iowa caucuses; in New Hampshire, Jim Gilmore's showing improved to 133, an unprecedented 1,000 percent increase. Reader: He didn't withdraw for another six days.

And when Romney does run, I am looking forward to Trump’s nickname for him. Chokin’ Mittens? Mini-Mitty? I also wonder how many primaries Mittens will last before he gives up.

Some Republicans will run if Soros pays enough.

Like they’re going to get Trump’s 63 million voters. There’s republicans, there’s democrats... and there’s Trump. No contest.

Trump’s approval among Republicans is 90%.

Anyone who challenges him for the nomination will never get elected to any office, ever, as a Republican afterward.

One of those losers is going to run as a third party spoiler, count on it. The butt-hurt is too great among them. The only one I don’t see trying that stunt is Cruz. My worry is that they will be able to suck away just enough votes in key states to deliver the next Democrap magical aggrieved group member they want to foist on us.

Revised, honest headline ...

Please Help Sow GOP Division (by speculating on re-election primary challengers - something we would never do for a Democrat president)

Correct. The Never Trump nom will be 3rd party and the Romney-Ryan network will finance it. The main Never Trump push won’t be in the primaries because 1) it has no chance of success and 2)it will be a useful foil for POTUS that will get out the maga vote and hurt the GOPe down ticket.

Now that is a good idea.

We should make a sculpture of the GOP platform. It can be in the shape of a turd.

Then we send it to the GOP and tell them hey we found a use for your platform since you apparently cannot.

You can nominate a Cubanadian, but you’ll never elect one.

Kasich is nuts, he might run.

Flake? Not a chance. He may tease it to sell books but he won’t do it.

Sasse? Doubt it, he may leave politics behind altogether.

Cruz? Why is he on this list? 35%? Try zero.

McMuffin? Is he even still a Republican? The article suggests he could be a Constitution party candidate. Shows how little the author knows about that party. Religious right paleo-conservatives that we mostly very pleased with Trump and certainly would never nominate a Jeb Bushy little twerp like McMuffin.

Old man Romney? No. He didn’t run for the Senate seat cause he’s interested in a no-shot Presidential bid. Say what you want about the man but I don’t think he’s a delusional idiot.

ANY republican who challenges Trump (a SITTING, duly elected Republican president), will NEVER get my support in the future. I will sit home, before I will vote for them.

If politics is about getting things done, then get things done. Trump is about getting things done. If politics is about power and ego, then they can suck dust, the whole lot of them.

There’s not any chance in the world Ted Cruz will run in 2020.

No chance at all.

He’s way smarter and more serious than that.

Pig Vomit isn’t really a Republican anymore. It is an absolute miracle he didn’t sabotage completely DeWine’s chances at succeeding him.

Flake similarly couldn’t get nominated as dogcatcher. I could see him running on a left-wing “Hate Trump” ticket with Pig Vomit.

Sasse should be disposed of in the 2020 Senate primary. President Trump needs to lean on Gov. Ricketts hard to get him to take out this bizarre nutter.

Cruz is staying put, period.

Egg McScumbag is a Willardbot disciple. His comments on twatter read like Demonrat tirades. He might as well run as one.

I’d disagree and say Willard is very delusional and an idiot. I’ll tell you when I knew he was gone was when he was up on stage the night Scott Brown won the Senate race. He thought HE had won it. For a moment, I thought Willard was going to push Brown off the stage, go full Norma Desmond and start “thanking the Academy for electing him President !” He had that deranged look in his eye. There’s no telling what this treasonous lunatic will do while in the Senate. He is not trustworthy in ANY capacity. I would explicitly exclude him from ANY strategy sessions with the GOP, because he’d run and tell the rodentry. Of course, that could prove useful for disinformation purposes.

If there is a viable third party Gope spoiler for Trump, I may change my registration to dem to vote for a bernie bro in the dem primary and again in the general. I kid you not. If Trump is removed from office somehow, I will vote communist.

2020 hinges more on the existence, or non existence, of the wall.

Or military actually defending the border as opposed to changing diapers.
