President Trump likely reinvigorated Republican lawmakers when he said is considering declassifying “devastating” Justice Department and FBI documents if House Democrats “want to play tough.”
The threat comes months after a handful of conservative lawmakers called on the president to declassify and release documents that they claim will show the Russia investigation is politically biased against the president...."If they want to play tough, I will do it. They will see how devastating those pages are,” Trump told the New York Post on Wednesday.
The request was made in September and heavily focused on documents relating to the surveillance warrant used against former Trump adviser Carter Page.
Also requested were documents detailing meetings former Justice Department official Bruce Ohr had with Christopher Steele, a former British intelligence agent who was paid by Democrats to write a salacious dossier about Trump, which had information the FBI relied on in its surveillance application on Page.
The new threat from the president comes as Democrats are set to take over the House in January, and the incoming committee chairmen have made it clear that the Trump administration will be the first target of their investigations.
Trump has already vowed to go after the Democrats, saying “two can play that game.”
“If the Democrats think they are going to waste Taxpayer Money investigating us at the House level, then we will likewise be forced to consider investigating them for all of the leaks of Classified Information, and much else, at the Senate level. Two can play that game!,” Trump said on Twitter the day after the midterm elections.
Democrats decried Republicans’ efforts to have the documents declassified as a broader push to discredit special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation.

I would say that we don't.
We have "Pretense-of-Law". We are ruled by a very complex oligarchy and most of the elected officials are merely front men for that oligarchy. Or as George Carlin said "It's a big club and you are not in it". Or as Leona Hemsley said "Laws are for little people".
Trump is part of a dissident faction within the oligarchy. The other factions have ganged up to stop him, using their tools in the media and the bureaucracy. The winners are going to purge the losers from all power positions. It is not really clear yet who the winners will be.
Are 66 million voters who supported Trump enough to decide the conflict? Maybe. But the decision will not be settled by voting, and it most certainly will not be settled by the Judicial system.
Trump, some of us have been asking for the document release 3 or more months ago. If that had happened and Congress could do what they beg to do would have happened and we would not have lost the House. Lesson learned. The communists Democrats will lie and kill when they have the chance and January it will start.

The art of the deal is knowing when and how to use your leverage. Trump has held back his leverage waiting for just the right time to spend it. I have NO doubt in this!
When the time and circumstance is right, Trump will use it and with a maximum impact.
Trump could have done it nearly 2 years ago, but he has not. So clearly, its not a live-or-die, “save the Republic” issue for him.
The documents he threatens to release either don’t exist, or he is just jerking the media (and conservatives’) chains to build publicity, or both.
Growing weary of Trumps games too.. release it because it is what’s right or this becomes a house of cards..let’s see the hand Mr President, no more don’t make me expose your corruption cra$..

There was an interesting article that I reference below that explains Trump reason to hold off is leverage.
I agree that Trump should use this to maximum effect. Leverage is good for some things and may be a valid reason.
However, unless the swamp is drained, even large positive tradeoffs would not be worth it. By not rooting out these corrupt characters, will mean that they will come back in force after Trump and our country would be permanently harmed.
I am hopeful (closer to confident) that Trump is playing the strategic game and will know the right time. I think that Trump is manipulating the press in threatening the Ds to not go after him or he will release the docs which will be harmful to the Ds. I think he is setting the stage as to what will be revealed by the OIG (Horowitz) and Huber. Then releasing the documents at that time makes the corruption more powerful. To me, the key is what has already occurred in the investigations of Huber.

This is one of the few areas where I fault President Trump.
These documents should have been declassified (and released) before the election, and now they should be declassified tomorrow morning.
If our British and Australian “friends” get their knickers in a twist over it, that is just too bad. They shoud not have been agreeing to go along with the RATs plan to spy on Trump.
