Those people could have accepted Mexico’s offer of asylum, then quietly slipped over our border a month or two later. Someone paid for a big, splashy confrontation and refuses to deviate from that plan. The plan is to get the US to cave and allow anyone into the US that wants to come. They are not deviating from that plan. Slipping in illegally in a month or two does not further that goal.
