Even when it does harm, many Brits tend to have a high-handed, superior manner in dealing with Americans.

Ernie King had such a prickly personality that he was said to always be in a rage. Moreover, he would have put a greater effort into fighting Japan. That cannot have pleased Eisenhower, who was chronically hard pressed to get the needed naval resources, especially landing craft.
