Many people who were immigrants/new citizens came in with their US passports. It is not the job of an election judge or an election clerk to verify citizenship. It is their job to ensure that the voter is registered to vote in the county in which they are attempting to vote and is voting in the right location. Only voters who are registered to vote in the county will show up on that county’s list of registered voters.

For example, if you registered to vote in Harris county, then you moved to San Jacinto county and changed your address on your drivers license to San Jacinto county, but failed to change your voters registration to your new county of residence, you will not show up in the list of registered voters in San Jacinto county. You would have to go back to Harris county and vote at your registered precinct location. When you showed your ID at the Harris County location you would be allowed to vote, but would also need to complete a statement of residence form to change your registration to your new address, post election. This is because the DMV does not change your voter registration for you when you get a new drivers license.

The Hurricane Harvey floods last year displaced a lot of people to new addresses. Some people just moved apartments in the same complex as repairs were being conducted and these people needed statement of residence forms for just a change of apartment number.

A few people came with drivers licenses from other states and were told to produce one of the 15 acceptable forms of identification for Texas voters or to return to their home state and vote there.

I didn't say it was the job of the election clerk to verify citizenship. However, perhaps it should be in this present time.

I merely pointed out that the only way to verify, with a higher degree of certainty, someone's eligibility to vote is to verify their BC (or naturalization paperwork).

That, and the fact that real...valid drivers licenses are being issued to illegal aliens.

The point being, an illegal alien can present a valid drivers license at any polling place in America where they live and vote as if they have that right.
