Gab has gone offline.
The self-described "free speech social media platform" is taking time off the internet, after landing under the spotlight when it was discovered the suspect involved in Pittsburgh's synagogue shooting was a poster and user on the site.

Gab posted a message on its homepage, announcing that the site will be "inaccessible for a period of time" as it works "around the clock" to transition a new hosting provider.
The platform has been banned by PayPal, and fellow online payment service Stripe is looking to cut off the site. Gab's new hosting service, Joyent, reportedly will suspend the site from 9 a.m. ET on Monday, Oct. 29.

Gab's domain registrar, GoDaddy, has also asked for the platform to take its business elsewhere.
"We have informed Gab.com that they have 24 hours to move the domain to another provider, as they have violated our terms of service," GoDaddy told Mashable in a statement.
"In response to complaints received over the weekend, GoDaddy investigated and discovered numerous instances of content on the site that both promotes and encourages violence against people."

Publishing platform Medium has also recently suspended Gab's account, under which the social site had made a statement stating that it "unequivocally disavows and condemns all acts of terrorism and violence." This statement has now been made unavailable.
Mashable has reached out to Medium for comment.

Thanks, Matt! I think that pretty well explains what happened at Gab. It’s amazing how quickly the criminal element can turn freedom into anarchy if they are allowed to succeed.
Gab, which was unmoderated, not only had a thousand-member neo-Nazi “Gas the Jews!” #Gabstapo, it also had subsets that shared child erotica, and described what they wanted to do to children. Fact.
Before you reflexively defend Gab, which has a good PR line about free speech, you should understand what a sick cesspool it became in the dark corners. Their policy of just giving a block/mute function to cover the sickos didn’t make them go away, it just hid them.
The worst were the group that intentionally triggered and challenged fools like Bowers to stop talking and "do it." Eventuall, Bowers "went in."
This "ovens" remark was sent to me. The double posting was in the original. What did Gab do? Nothing. There was no moderation, no reporting. Just block/mute.

You people keep comparing Gab to FR when they are very separate and different entities with different up front guidelines and missions. The big difference between the two is you can mute someone there.
Now I know you aren’t as dumb as you sound in this slew of posts to me so that leaves me wondering what, besides your Jewish faith, has you so deep in the pit.
I respect the openness of Gab. You don’t. Fine. Again; not my problem. I didn’t spend a lot of time there but I like the fact they are free speech oriented. You don’t have a right to not be offended. You do have choices about where you choose to spend your time.
There are plenty of idiots on FR too by the way. I encounter them all the time. Out of nowhere they attack me personally for something I’ve said. FR is really no different than Gab in some ways. I’m attacked and offended at times here because we do have free speech rights here too. I accept the flack but I usually hit back worse than what I get. That will continue.

If you’re google (who is also youtube and a thousand other things) and your twitter, you’re all about surveying the internet landscape for competition. For one thing, you’re looking to buy out any upstarts that look like they have a high ceiling. For another, you’re looking to crash their niche, if you’re not already in it, through development. But also, in a similar vane, you’re looking for that next big thing. You want to see it coming. You don’t want to be myspace after facebook, or ebay after amazon, or yahoo after google.
For me to assume that these VERY VERY RICH (and inherantly powerful) organizations aren’t also looking to suppress, steal (corporate espionage) and and sabotage competition would be for me to ignore everything I have learned about human nature & power in my life.
