Ignore the article(s) written by WHITE, Western liberals.

I read what Africans, real Africans in Africa thought about the First lady's sartorial sense and visit and they were

Melania visited, my country, Kenya and wore a hat aka pith helmet that has caused twitter controversy. But seriously, so what?

I think Melania is a beautiful and kind woman who gets slack for her

What if she wore a Texan cowboy hat. What would twitter have to say about it then? ‘Oh, look, Melania has taken her republican fashion sense to Africa.’

People will always find fault in whatever FLOTUS does or doesn’t do.

As an outsider, I think she looked happy. I’ve not seen her smile the way she has done in her African tour. She seemed genuinely happy, and I can’t blame her. The African spirit is warm, kind and welcoming. We don’t judge our guests for what they wear, it’s their smile and comfort that we seek to cherish.

I have spent the past twenty minutes to frame this sensitively. But at the end of the day, sensitivity lies in the eye of the beholder. My train of thought has been interrupted many times by laughter because, this, as a controversy is rather silly.

Is the pith helmet being retconned as a proxy for the Maxim gun or the imperial flag?

Are we really saying that Africans, most of whom are in nations composed of ethnic groups with centuries of enmity between them are to turn into shrinking daisies at the sight of a 5′9 woman in a pith helmet and not at the sight of a Zulu in full war dress or Fulani Emir in procession etc?

I am an African who has lived and largely stayed in Africa; I am not offended by what Melania wore.

That rhetoric is not from African press !!!!! Since when have these international media been the best ambassadors and most relied upon predictors of African reactions.

..Okay, Melania wearing a white pith helmet, crisp white shirt and light brown jodhpurs made headlines; but in international media.

This is mere hate talk, originating from non Africans, and blinding us from seeing and discussing the beautiful things Melania did during her visit that touched hearts.

Africans rank very highly in friendliness, hospitality and social hapiness, it is not African to treat visitors like that.

Wearing pith helmets in Africa is not perceived to be racist by Africans within Africa. It is standard safari wear for many tourists in Africa. Use of international media to skew our response to Melania's visit is what should be condemned.

No one on the left complained when Hillary went to Vietnam and wore a Viet Cong Straw Hat.

Did anybody really think with helmets were problematic before the Twitter mod declared that they were problematic?

Show me one person in the whole world worried about the colonial implications of pity helmets before this became the biggest story on the internet. Just one.
