Aykroyd comes up here to open a new stupid dinosaur museum. He rode his motorcycle from town to the country where it was. It was a pure attempt to legitimize the waste of tax dollars.
Oh, stop with your prudishness- thats virtue signaling too
Huh, well we never paid to see him again. He was really vulgar. Not virtue signaling, just the truth and our opinion.
Their early Hillary sketches were good but someone must a phone call. They really toned it down until they finally just became part of her 2016 campaign.
SNL is still on-air? Whooda thunk.
It stopped being funny decades ago.
Or that likeable. But he was incredibly lucky - in the right place at the right time.
I think the show has gone downhill in recent years. Part of the appeal of the earlier show is that it was fresh and unlike what you'd usually see on TV at the time. Not every sketch was great, but at least there was some originality involved. Now the formula is tired and stale.
Also, they had both a common culture of 50s/60s TV to draw on and their own druggy rock youth culture. I don't know what the people doing the show now are drawing on. They don't seem to be parodying anything (except Jeopardy), and they seem afraid to seriously satirize anything.
Also, like I said about the new Ghostbusters, just creating mildly amusing characters doesn't make for effective comedy. There has to be some edge or bite. I suspect the new cast has been told that they were wonderful and talented so often by parents and teachers that they don't have the sting or bite or chip on their shoulder that makes great comedians.
Those dry looks at the camera, his expressions, his comments, mad me laugh. The early Steve Martin used to have me smiling as he walked on stage. Phil did the same thing.
When his wife shot him, it really bothered me. It still does to this day, all the humor that man would have brought to the world, and that selfish POS wife of his ended it.
Needed to be said again.
I still remember the title of a Boston Phoenix article: From Fever to Fatigue: Saturday Night Live Ain’s As Funny As It Used To Be.
That was 1979. A year before the original cast left.
Chase on Weekend Update during the Ford years: “If he’s so dumb...how come he’s President?”
Of course Ford was never elected President or even VP. He was appointed VP after Nixon replaced Agnew, then Nixon resigned.
But I still recall that line every time people say Trump is dumb. If he’s so dumb, how come he’s President?
And unlike Ford he was elected.
