Student council members: Ice cream is not 'inclusive' enough
Campus Reform ^ | 9/13/18 | Adam Sabes

Student council members at The University of Wisconsin-Madison are demanding the school change the ingredients in the official university ice cream, claiming that the current ingredients are discriminatory toward some minority students.

UW-M’s official ice cream, the Babcock, contains a beef gelatin additive, which according to the legislation, “renders certain communities such as the Jewish, Hindu, Buddhist, and vegetarian unable to enjoy it without violating their beliefs.”

“It renders certain communities such as the Jewish, Hindu, Buddhist, and vegetarian unable to enjoy it without violating their beliefs.”

The legislation, titled “Ice Cream for All,” is already has eight sponsors, including the Chair, Vice Chair, and Secretary of the Associated Students of Madison Student Council. The ASM student council is comparable to a student government senate. The “Ice Cream for All” legislation will be voted on next Wednesday.

The ASM Student Council can only recommend changes to the university administration. Nothing that the ASM Student Council passes is, in fact, a definitive change.

The legislation states that the Babcock Ice Cream is an important tradition at UW-M, and “it would be a gross act of discrimination to continue to deprive some minority students” from eating the ice cream because of their religious beliefs. Sponsors of the legislation also added that issues like this play a part in the marginalization of students.

“Symbolic issues like these have always and will always play a critical role in whether marginalized students and people feel welcome, included, and connected to their community,” reads the legislation.

However, according to The Badger Herald, Scott Rankin, chair of the food science department, said the university ice cream shop, Babcock Dairy, offers an assortment of ice creams that are gelatin free, adding that it would be hard to replicate the taste of the gelatin-based ice cream.

Not even salads are sufficiently "inclusive".

We have food CHOICES for a reason, and none are "bigoted"!!!!

...Diversity is an anti-religion, and anti-ideology, a nepotism which promotes everything except one's own family.

Diversity therefore equals the destruction of any and all religions and of all positive ideologies.

Because Diversity can only be destructive: whatever IS is insufficiently or inexactly diverse.

Whatever IS must therefore be destroyed in order to make it MORE Diverse.

And there is no conceivable or measurable end to it. Yesterday's Diversity is today's intolerable lack of Diversity.

Diversity is the destruction of Good; and it is the destruction of all types of Good - however defined. All are chewed up and spat out by Diversity.

Diversity is the promotion of chaos by the destruction of Good; and then there-naming of chaos as Good.

Gee, now Ben and Jerry’s will have to come out with a new politically correct flavor.

Wonder if that’s the point of this news.

Weird that gelatin made from the cow is bad, but glandular excretion squeezed from the udder is OK.

I thought they used various kinds of seaweed extracts to thicken and stabilize ice cream; but in this case the gelatin seems to be a part of the flavoring.

It is simply pointing out that a common food is off limits to a good portion of the student population. One they could eat if it did not have beef in it.
= = =

This would apply to Hamburgers, also.

They went about their request very stupidly but it is still a valid request. I don’t know why it is important to them that this flavor be beef free when alternatives are available. But if the request can be met it should be.

I am old enough that ice cream that just does not melt makes me a bit leery of it. You are right about the seaweed (I think it is carageen(sp) extract. Gelatin is added to some yogurt brands too. But it is kosher gelatin.

But then, what dessert IS inclusive enough for them?

...

How about the black and white cookie?

Multi-Culti activists can’t even agree on ice-cream, but remember - diversity is strength!

Not really. Because one would be rather stupid to think that hamburgers might not have beef in them. You would not be stupid to think ice cream should not have beef in it.

Perhaps some people should not have ice cream. They have been naughty, for not converting to Christianity, and should be punished.

Actually not a major problem at UW-Madison campus anyway, as some 98% are atheist, or at least agnostic. Don’t believe in much except the superior authority of the State.

THAT is the official religion whose theology is taught on that campus. Command and control, yeah, that’s the ticket!

Western Civilization 1.0 is dead. Time for Western Civilization 2.0.

OK, Western Civilization 1.0 was comprised of the great Greco-Roman civilizations of antiquity, followed by St. Augustine and later the Renaissance (Michelangelo, Boticelli, Rembrandt, Leonardo, etc.) and Shakespeare, Mozart, Bach, Vermeer, Monet, Renoir, Dickens, Hugo, culminating in Einstein.

What is Western Civilization 2.0 supposed to contain?

I’ve got a daughter with dairy intolerance. Just have an official ice pop or lemon ice too and be done with it.

Won't work. Some chronic bellyacher will find some reason to be offended.

This isn’t like demanding no bacon be served or all meals be vegan.

Of course it is, just the first demand. They could always try to find a Jewish or Hindi, Buddhist, Islamic school where they serve Bacon.

Isn’t ice cream not inclusive of people with lactose intolerant? 65% of the world’s population is lactose intolerant.

Not to mention A1 casein converting to Beta casomorphin, passing through a leaky gut and binding to opioid receptors in the brain. Demand A2 based milk just to be safe.

Protein intake from dairy food increases bovine beta-casomorphin 7 in human mature milk
