No. It means that the ‘low income’ group and the ‘high income’ group together outnumber the ‘middle income’ group. The terms aren’t exact. Here’s a discussion:

Thanks for that. Yes, I could see how a discussion of this topic could be manipulated depending on what one defines as middle class.

That's a great link you provided.The graph it contained was great but could have been broken down more to make it even more revealing.That is,they can factor in a state or region's cost of living to more finely define terms like "middle class".

Americans know (and,I'd guess,most Canadians know) that $50,000 a year buys a lot less in many areas of the I-95 and I-5 corridors than it does in most of the rest of the country.For example,several smaller units just like mine in my condo complex just sold for the same money that will buy you a three or four bedroom house in suburban Pittsburg or Charlotte,NC.

It is amazing that the Trust Fund crowd and the Welfare Class have formed a coalition making it possible for ILLary to get more votes than DJT.
