My wife is dragging me to Asheville on Wednesday so she can watch the World Equestrian Games while I sit in coffee shops and bars and read FreeRepublic. Should be interesting. Any advice for a good watering hole, especially those with good music?

Highland Brewing
Or, if you enjoy a much more musically oriented space, The Orange Peel.

The equestrian event is in Landrum near the NC/SC line. If you want a great pizza and cold beer, I suggest this place in nearby Tryon. http://www.sidestpizza.com/mobile/#home/index

Consult a map. Ashville is 45 minutes from Landrum. Prepare for flooding. Trying took a massive hit last spring. A sleepy area.

Roger Smith’s Diner at the center serves alcohol. Best bet....go to The Hare & The Hound in Landrum. Very good spot.
