SACRAMENTO Sold from vending machines in Pennsylvania, feed depots in Nevada, pharmacies in Georgia and jewelry stores in Texas, ammunition is in many states easier to buy than cold medicine. But in California, which already enforces some of the nations most restrictive gun laws, there is a movement underway against the unfettered sale of bullets.
Gun control advocates here have pushed to limit internet sales, ban large-capacity magazines, require sellers to have licenses, raise taxes on bullets, and mandate serial numbers or other traceable markings on ammunition so that the police can more easily track them.
Such regulations, several of which have been enacted and take effect this year and next, are inspired by the view that the best way to limit gun violence is to approach it as a bullet control problem. As Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan, a Democrat from New York, told the Senate 25 years ago, when he introduced legislation that would have imposed a 10,000-percent tax on hollow-tip ammunition, guns dont kill people; bullets do.

With Kavanaugh on the Supreme Court, this will be challenged. I give better than even odds it is found unconstitutional.
It is like saying you cannot buy books out of state or through the mail.
But then, we have had the unconstitutional restraint of firearm sales for 50 years.
Ammunition, not so much.
I propose that California enact a new law, forbidding sales of ammo to non-Republicans. Problem solved, the bulk of gun violence ends - because it’s liberals and crazies that are doing the violence and they are for the most part not Republican.

During the Clinton years, primers were scarce.
Found a Gibson in OK to buy enough for 2-3 years.
As this current coup rapidly approaches a "Fort Sumter" point we'll experience why the deep state has been militarized...
Perhaps the Indian reservations throughout Cali, and other states, could go into the business of selling guns and ammo since they are not state controlled lands.
Just think, it used to be illegal for a white man to sell Indians a gun or ammo.
So, would it would be legal for an Indian to sell guns and ammo to whites in California on Reservation lands?
I see poetic justice in this.
I was fascinated how easy it is to recharge primers.
If you only need a few hundred rounds, it might take a couple of days, but can be done.
I spend a couple of days to reload 308 or 30-06... every thing measured and equal.

I’ll have to be sure to take my Wife’s Car when I go to Vegas to “replenish” my Ammo Supply. The “TRUMP 45” Vanity License Plates on my Car would give me away for sure. #;^)
California has always had produce checkpoints on roads entering the state. Way back in the 80s they opened and examined the cooler we were keeping cold drinks as we crossed in coming from Reno. More annoying than the customs booths in Bar Harbor as you drove off the ferry from Yarmouth N.S. . So I do not put it past Cali to check every tenth car or truck entering the state.
Make that 10,000 rounds per firearm.
“Is California going to check Californians cars returning from Nevada?
Only the ones that they previously observed in certain store parking lots.”
How are California DOJ agents going to do this? In the Prescott area alone there are 20 stores that sell ammunition. Now calculate how many stores sell that in larger cities like Las Vegas and Phoenix.
Not enough manpower to enforce the law and they will get no help from local law enforcement agencies in NV and AZ.
If you tell them you have no agricultural items or other “prohibited items” and they would need probable cause to search your vehicle. Otherwise tell them to piss off.
It takes 4 votes from the SC to hear an appeal. Kennedy has declined to hear many of them and Thomas has been itching hear them.
Doesn’t matter if they achieve only a small percentage of smuggling enforcement. California is a leading example of anarchy-tyranny. In this case the gang bangers will be swimming in ammo. But some working shlub who brings back a few rounds will be fined and might find himself jobless. Harassing the law abiding on what should be legal behavior is all they care about. Mainly because it is easy money, the law abiding don’t fight back, but also to promote the liberal agenda.
PA has ammo vending machines, like the one I just bought a soda from at Costco? Never heard of such a thing but cool if it’s true.
