This article and it’s author lost all credibility when it said the VA should handle this.

Me getting out of the army: July 15, 1996:

1. Retention NCO: “Do you want to stay in?” .

Nope. Next station.

2. Reserves: “Do you want to join the reserves or national guard?”

Nope. Next station.

3. Civilian govt employee: “Do you want to be a cop? “

No. The rules of engagement suck.

4. Same Govt pogue: “Do you want to be a school teacher? “

No. The rules of engagement suck even worse. Next station.

5. Finance Corps weenie: “You’re from Florida and eligible for unemployment. Do you want to claim unemployment while you look for a job?”

No.

” You are eligible for food stamps while you look for a job. Do you want to apply for food stamps? “

No.

Walked out the door and never looked back. FTG.

I was in RVN, up to my neck in VC/NVA crap.

I never got any TAP when I got out of the Army.

That was then. This is now. That was there. This is here.

Never had any problem separating the two.

Privatizing the military is about the most idiotic thing I’ve ever heard. Outsourcing civilians to fight our wars overseas? Give me a break. I’m sure they can obtain rifles, but where’s their artillary, tanks, fighter jets and bombers, Navy destroyers, airraft carriers and aircraft, Marine Corps, etc.?

Our Army, Navy, Airforce, and Marines can’t do the job?

I put in over 22 tears in the AF.

Two years **before** I got to the 20 yr mark I was search enjoyment ads and other civilian data. What licenses would I need? What job qualifications were hot and so..

One day I was in the USAF, the next day I was the Dept head at a jr college and starting at 50K+/yr.

Never got any ‘transition’ help from the .Mil. Would have been worthless anyway.

The draft is long gone. The .MIl is another job.

WWYD if you wanted a new job? Why would your old employer pay to get you a new/different job?

I was employed as an Army Career and Alumni counselor at Fort Bragg in 95-96 for nearly three years, counseled nearly two thousand soldiers. Then I left and took over the Camp Lejeune Transistance Program for 5-months as a GS-9, leaving because the distance from Fayetteville where home was. Then in 1999 I was the Retirement Services Officer in The Netherlands for NE Germany, France, Belgium, Holland, Luxembourg. I believe that the “program” now is better at locations like Fort Bragg, but at Lejeune less capable due to the command structure. The contractor at Bragg screwed employees on sick leave (6 days( and annual leave policy (10 days) in 1997 by making you take an entire day instead of a fraction. Pay was the same as working on a hog farm as a breeder for Smithfield’s or Brown’s of Carolina.
