“But the fact is the taxpayer IS subsidizing his work force LOL! You will deny reality?”

Are we subsidizing EVERY company’s workforce where you can find some person getting a government check?

These people have agency, whether you think they have intelligence or not.

NO ONE forced them to work at Amazon. They read the ad, saw the pay, and applied!

So at what point do these brainless chimps obtain sentience and become responsible for their employment choice?

They are not slaves, and can quit and find better work like people do all over the country.

These people choose to work there, then go get on welfare....and that’s Amazon’s fault?

Yes. But I have never worked at any company where any of the employees were on the dole. It's not as prevalent as you think.

They are not slaves, and can quit and find better work like people do all over the country.

Taxpayers aren't slaves either.

Look, you can be against this, but you can't say this isn't a direct subsidy to Amazon employees. Find another avenue of attack. This one doesn't hunt.

Some people cannot produce enough value form their labor to make a living wage and forcing a company to pay them that only takes away from their owners, shareholders, and the employees who are worth more but are paid less to provide for those who need a “living wage”

It’s socialism to push that and I’ll pass

So you prefer crony capitalism in which the blue collar workforce is subsidized with taxpayer dollars. Ok, I get it.

Yes, there is some truth into the fact that a lot of Amazon’s stock value is tied to what it could do not what it is doing this year/quarter. They are being rewarded for potential more than results in current pricing.

However that pricing doesn’t reflect a bump up in time table of automating their business. If investors are seeing it as a certainty 20 years from now and Amazon guidance said it would be achieved in 5 that pricing is not reflected in current value.

Things are going to come full circle on automation vs. service. I am sick to death of dealing with 1 staffed register at checkout for every 6 self-checkout stand. It was a novelty to me 15 years ago where I could bag things the way I wished.

Now for the privilege of paying traditional grocery store prices vs. warehouse/discounter prices I don’t want to bag my groceries. Hell, my first job I bagged them AND carried them out to your car.

Try finding that anywhere anymore.

Oh, and Bernie and the rest of the Demagogic Party want to take away everyone's tax cut. And you know why that is....

I have mixed emotions on this. First I see your point, then I look at the billionaires intentionally paying poverty wages and wanting to import foreign workers to avoid paying fair wages.

“legislation to tax corporations for every dollar that their low-wage workers receive in government health-care benefits or food stamps.”

corporations would simply fire their poorest workers and/or reduce hiring by shifting to automation whenever possible ...

“Job Seeker: How much does it pay?
Amazon Employee: $10 per hour with no benefits. Are you still interested?
Job Seeker: Yes, I’ll take it!
How is this Amazon’s fault?”

They’ve been grinding competition into the ground until there are no higher paying jobs for many of these people. That’s one reason why antitrust laws were created. Imagine if someday amazon is the ONLY retail outlet for all material goods on Earth? That is their goal.

Not everyone can be a doctor, lawyer, engineer, etc. If they could, those jobs would pay nothing too.

All people need jobs that pay a living wage or subsidies if there are no jobs.

Otherwise your only other choice is to abandon/kill/imprison anyone that lacks the ability to survive the market. An unrestricted free market has no solution for unmarketable people while maintaining a civilized society.

Welfare has its drawbacks and cheats but what is another option for people who are simply unmarketable and cant get a job?

So you support Sanders plan?

Please define “living wage” for me? Please tell me how it differs from a “minimum wage”. Please tell me if it should be indexed each year for inflation? Should it be indexed geographically because of higher costs of living in certain areas of the country?

If companies are forced to pay whatever a “living wage” is, then can we end the FoodStamp and Welfare programs eventually?

I dont support Sanders plan but something needs to be done.

We have a growing population that can barely afford food/shelter while working themselves to the bone.

The first thing I would do is limit foreign ownership of property and greatly cut down on importing/outsourcing labor. Right now, we are basically selling out our land and hurting people who need shelter in exchange for 3rd world labor from slave states.

95% of the homeowners on my block are now Chinese and my home has increased in value 10x in the past 20 years. Salaries have barely increased and no way someone with the same job I used to have could afford anything even close today.

Something is obviously very very wrong...

P.S.- We are so far gone and sold out to Chinese that most big developers are changing house numbers, floors and apartment numbers that have a “44” anywhere. It is considered bad luck for Chinese
