During the US Marines' attack at Belleau Wood on June 6, 1918, Sgt. Dan Daly famously said, "Come on, you sons of bitches, do you want to live forever?"
It was in that battle that the Marines earned their nickname of Teufelhunden/Devil Dogs.
I have a photo, taken in 1954, of my father with one of the Marines who survived that battle.
