McConnell: Senate will stay until 12 Trump judges approved

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said Thursday that the Senate will stay in session this month until it approves a dozen more Trump judicial picks and four other executive branch nominees.

The Kentucky Republican laid out the schedule after setting up votes to defeat Democratic filibusters on all 16 nominees.

“No more obstruction, no more delays. It’s time to confirm them all,” Mr. McConnell said. “The Senate will continue to work right through August until every single one of them is confirmed.”

That appeared to be a warning to senators who were hoping for another summer break.

Mr. McConnell already canceled much of the usual August vacation to keep senators in town to work on spending bills and on nominations. Some on Capitol Hill had hoped he would relent and allow a final week’s vacation, but that appears unlikely given the schedule of votes he laid out.

“Yea. Ever since those harrassers went after him and his wife, he’s been less RINO.”

I suspect that 2 things have occurred: first, he had some of his illusions destroyed when he and his wife got harassed; second, I am quite sure that his wife has a LOT to do with this - Elaine Chou takes guff from no one, and probably told Mitch to really stick it to those people for daring to bother them.

If I’m wrong, and the good Senator is just doing his job as the leader of the Senate Republicans, that’s fine. I’m just glad that this is happening, whatever the reason or reasons.

After that, let’s move on to the Wall.

“Ryan is another story.”

A branch of family settled in Wisconsin in the 1830’s and some stayed til the late 90s, (great summer vacations!) so that state always has a place in my heart.

Watched closely the Mittens-Ryan run and something about him rubbed me the wrong way. Now it’s been shoved into our faces. He’s a swamp creature.

Did McConnell read the tea leaves, grow a consciences? OR a swamp creature with a brain??? I vote 2.0. I don’t trust him.

We need to call McConnell’s office and let him know that this is great! Thank him. When he does well, he deserves our praise.

The point is that are not lifetime appointments. At some point the temporary commissions would all result in vacancies which the next President could fill with lifetime appointments.

“The Senate will continue to work right through August until every single one of them is confirmed.”

The turtle's statement makes it sound like the senators are working 60 hour weeks. We need to always remember that a Senator's workweek starts late Mon or Tue morning and ends Thurs or Friday morning at the latest.

I had forgotten that episode.

I think you're right.

Many Senators are playing HOOKEY & not showing up...

What is the penalty on them for not being present???

Confirm them all with one vote. Then Mitch, please explain how your family got so much Chi-com money.

GOP Absences Push Back Judicial Nominees

“Three senators skipped Judiciary Committee meeting on Thursday, including Ted Cruz.”

“Missing were Ted Cruz, Jeff Flake, and Mike Lee, the aide said. Cruz actually was in Washington, D.C., and his nonattendance has yet to be explained. His office did not respond to multiple requests for comment.”

“…if any one of those senators had shown up, a sufficient quorum would have been present, and the nominees would have been able to move to the next step of the confirmation process.”

I've noticed that too. Just like a lot of American's, previously isolationist, were very pro-war once their friends and relatives were attacked by Nazis.
