California tax shelter saves children big bucks on inherited property
San Francisco Chronicle ^ | August 17, 2018 | Kathleen Pender

A state law that protects children from steep tax increases on inherited property is likely contributing to the shrinking inventory of homes for sale in many parts of California.

As baby boomers — the oldest of whom are 72 — die and leave homes to offspring who convert them to other uses, the shortage could get worse.

The State doesn’t really want you to own anything. They might let you use stuff, but ultimately they consider it all to be their property.

Agree. They just let you rent it. Don’t believe me? Don’t pay your property taxes (legalized theft) and watch what happens.....

I remember being elated the day I made my last mortgage payment. I finally "owned" my own house!

And then I got my property tax bill and realized: I merely went from debtor to the bank, to renter to the State....

They want to take these homes away from American families so Chinese or Indian immigrants can buy them.

You guys are late to the party! Socialist countries often tax accumulated wealth. Never mind it has already been taxed. How else are they going to pay for everything for all those who cannot be bothered to work???

No, they want three or four Mexican families to be able to settle down in each current single family dwelling.

Because people should be forced to sell their family homes to redistribute wealth to those that democrats believe should have it.

One of the planks of the Communist manifesto is the elimination of private ownership of property and land. What’s happening in this country is a slow and in some cases not so slow communist revolution right in front of our eyes. It’s the old story of cooking a frog in cold water and turning up the heat slowly. Too late to jump out when it’s boiling but for awhile it is not a problem.

It seems the vast majority of ho es she in the Bay Area are to Indians and Chinese already. Go to any open house on Sunday on the peninsula, Silicon Valley or, nearby towns — shoppers are almost 100% Chinese or Indian.

Least the Indian immigrants want to work, contribute to the community and actually live in the houses. The Chinese just use them to grow pot, house more illegals, etc.

Yep! And if you don’t pay the “tribute” to the government “kings” you will lose your house. How about that? I pay more in yearly taxes on my house that the rent I used to pay for a whole year 15 years ago in a rent house. YOU NEVER GET OUT OF MONTHLY PAYMENTS for the rest of your life...whether it be for paying the cost of the house or the NEVER ENDING RENT “TRIBUTE” TO THE KING.

Santa Clara Assessor Larry Stone said he would not vote for the measure if it was on the ballot today. It’s “just a way for people to transfer wealth to another generation,” he said.

Does his attitude totally sum up the entire liberal mindset or what?
